4100 and 6\' finish mower?

Hello,
I am considering buying a 4100 HST. Has anyone tried running a 6' finish mower behind a 4100? Can it handle a normal fast growing lawn? The post by TANUKE01 on 7/8 regarding the lack of power on his 4200 w/60 belly mower and 3pt Trac_Vac has me scared.
Thanks,
Jeff

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

IMHO, I think a 6' finish mower for a 4100 is probably too big. 5' mower is probably ideal. Yes, a 6' would probably be ok if the grass is cut frequently and not damp. I feel a 6' is also probably to heavy for the 3 pt as well.

I agree with Radman; too big and heavy for the 4100. Another case of "you can probably do it, but you probably won't like it."

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

I just looked in my JD brochure, and it definately list a 72" rear finish mower as an "approved" attachment for a 4100.

Bird may very well be right about it not working acceptably with wet/thick grass. I would see if the dealer would bring one out and let you give it a try before you buy.

Jon, maybe I should have made it clear that it was (still is at this point) my "opinion" and could certainly be wrong. I didn't know the 72" mower was included in the approved list for the 4100.

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

Sorry, didnt mean to come off like a "know it all"...ive been shopping and happened to notice this strange departure with the 72" rear finish mower. None of the other manufactures suggest a 72" mower until you get into the 25hp range. The 4100 is only 20 hp (16 to the pto) and that makes me think that you are probably right about it not working very well.

You didn't, and nothing to be sorry for. I appreciate the information when you (or anyone else) know something I don't. And you don't have to know a lot to know something I don't./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

Just a question....but are you sure that is a 72" 3ph mower....or just a 72" Mid mount mower. I can see the 72" midmount, but the 72" rear requires a little more "Umph" (that's my technical word /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif).

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

The current Deere Equipment Purchasing Guide says that the 4100 is compatible with the JD 272 mower. This is a 668 lb., 72 inch 3ph finish mower. The 4100 is compatible with a maximum 60" midmount mower.

Re: 4100 and 6\' finish mower?

I'm using a 60" 3pt finish mower on my 2710 and it even bogs down some in damp or tall grass, causing me to have to slow down.
