Of the 4100, 4010, 4110, and 4115 models can anyone tell me which have an aluminum and which have a cast iron transaxle? I've heard the gear 4100 is cast iron but the HST 4100 is aluminum, just wondering what the facts are.

Also which models have steel hoods and which have fiberglass or plastic.

Do they all have split rear brakes?

Can any of you owners actually measure how wide your tractor is to the widest point on the sidewalls and which tires you've got? Can the rears be switched to narrow or wide stance on these models.

4010 owners- do you think the HP is sufficient for a snow blower or do you wish it had just a little more?

Sorry for all the questions but the more I research the more questions I have. I've got limited access to tractors around here, pretty much just the new ones at the dealer. Just trying to find one that will fit on a 48" sidewalk for snow removal but still be useful with a bucket and forks for the summer.

Thanks,
Roger

Re: 4100, 4010, 410, 4115 ?'s

I have owned a 410 in the past, and I own a 4115 now. I was never a fan of the 4010 for several reasons, but especially for snow blowing. My 4115 has a lot more power and I even wish it had a little more at times when blowing snow. The 4010 had the same rear end that the newer 2210, 2305 and 2320 have. The 4110 has the same rear that the 4115 and 2520/2720 have. My 4115 is approximately 53.5" outside to outside of the rear R4's IIRC (edited to add: I checked them today and they are 52" out to out). There is a wide and narrow position, but it doesn't change the width more than a couple inches at the very most. It is a little wider than my 4110 was with the same rear tires, so the axle stub shafts must be slightly longer. They all have the split wet disk brakes on them. The 4100 had the steel hood. the others are the high impact plastic Deere uses on mots of their CUT's. I have also heard that the 4100 gear had a cast iron rear axle housing, but can't confirm. The others are aluminum.

Thanks. Sounds like maybe the 4010 is a little lacking in the HP dept. The narrow stance got my attention as it would easily fit on a 48" sidewalk and be just a bit narrower than the 47" snow blower. I seem to keep circling back to the 2320 but wonder if it's just a bit too tight for the sidewalks.

Any other owners have any observations or comments?
