Great thread as I am also interested in building a 40' X 60' building. If you like this thread, check out garagejournal.com, they have a ton like this one.
....I"d need a storage for my toys, tractor, atv's etc. I don't understand why everybody builds a pole building, high structure, 12,14 ft. What is the purpose for the hights?
My neighbor has a pole building 25x45x14. He parks his small boat ,his truck, Harley, small JD mover, and a couple of junks there. Thats it. 3 car garage size blng. would've been plenty. He spent 30 000 for what couldn't been 10000. If he needed it for a hay or he wanted some built in rooms , then OK, it makes sense. But nothing like that in his case. Just tons of wasted material and money. And he has a condensation inside issue. I believe many people are just like him. Big, tall building and the biggest object inside is a pick up truck.
Please don't tell me , that a pole building is the cheapest structure... I understand , that a pole building without a concrete floor is maybe only option and it is a great option. But with a concrete floor / slab/.??
I just don't get it.

Just talked to the builder. The total cost for materials, including concrete for the entire 40x72, site prep, gutters, and other incidentals $28,500. Labor for 6 guys x 2 weeks $13,000. Total 41,500 (turnkey) 2 week build time. No upcharge on the materials and lift.
If anyone is shopping for a metal building, see if the salesman will tell you the weight of all the steel components. Not insulation and doors but just structure. And get their price of the structural stuff. Im curious since steel prices have dropped 30-40% in the last year.
I just bought some steel I beams and plate at Triple S steel and paid 51 to 56 cents a pound for new not surplus.
So anyway im wondering what the building companies are getting per pound for the buildings, to compare to just going to the steelyard and buying the components yourself.
