400cx loader guys , whats it really pick up?

I know their documentation says a cx model will do about 2700 with proper ballast. IS ballast in the ballast box with extension filled with cement ENOUGH ballast for that or you need more.

Are you on a cab or open model, do you have any rear wheel weights or filled rear tires?

Does the 4020 series struggle in power to lift 2700lbs or will it pick the tractor up first?

Im going to run a cab with full ballst box in back "cement" probably and all the rear wheel weights on.

The dealer is telling me 2k will be pretty heavy for it, im planning to throw the forks on it, which should be a lot lighter than a 73" hd or 84" bucket right? I want to lift 2600~ lb pallets of 50lb bagged salt. Will it lift it off a small trailer and be able to drive it 50 feet and sit it down and the same deal only lift it up 3' in the air and put it into a trailer?

It should lift it fine. The dealer is probably saying it will be heavy because he wants to make his pocket heavier.

I had a 4045 and used a weighted box blade for ballast which worked out pretty good, the only problem was the 400x loader wasn't much good for moving dirt, it would lift okay with a full load but had problems with break out strength. I traded up for a 5425 with 542 loader, breakouts no problem.

I have the 400CX on my 4320. Just last week I picked up a pallet (off full size Semi) with 2600lbs on it and had a 48 backhoe on the rear. I even have both rear tires loaded and it was about all the 4320 could do without having the rear end lift off the ground while rolling back from the Semi. Once I had it about one to two feet off ground it was fine. I have also unloaded one ton pallets of wood pellets from my pickup with only a Champion wood chipper (400-600lbs?) on my 3 point hitch and the loaded tires. It did raise my rear end up with that configuration rolling back from the pickup and lowering to the ground. The 400cx has no issue with the weight just the tractors rear end and front tires.

Picking up a 27 inch concrete culvert at appx 2800 lbs. Filled rear tires, 448 backhoe, it was really light on the back end. Second pipe I put about 250 lbs of lead bricks in the hoe bucket and extended the dipperstick for leverage. Without the bricks if I lowered the load and stopped, the rear end came off the ground.

unless you need the compact size maybe you should be looking at a 5603 with loader, can be had for $40k

Hiya,

If your staying on level paved or cement surfaces with the material, you might be better off picking up a used forklift. I picked up a used Clarke with a 6K rating for less than $2500.00. Ya, it's old, and kinda ugly but it's great for pallets on and off of our trucks.

A 3000 Lb pallet doesn't even phase the Clarke at all while the little loader on our 2520 struggles with 1000 Lb and not to mention the forklift has side shift which you will be addicted to the first time you use it. (The used forklift cost about the same as getting a new set of forks for the 580 Case and I don't have to go pick it up from my brother.)
