40$ air filter?

Well for my 2 cents worth, maybe 1 cent, I don't like the oil bath on my 1700 and have thought of changing to an aftermarket washable filter.

Umm... with the oil bath filters which I agree is awsome when ground is level, how bout' operating on a good, long incline or a steady side hill or ditch line where the oil is not level and not catchn' all the particulate from brush hoggn? I agree with soundguy, 40 bucks or so is cheaper than new engines every other year, Ounce of prevention=pound of cure.

An oil bath has 2 methods of working...

1, when the vacume starts, much of the oil is pulled up into the mesh media.. this makes a sticky 'maze' the air has to rush thru.. particles inthe air stick to the oil.. when the engine is shut down, the oil and gunk drip to the bottom into the colelction cup.

2, not al the oil gets sucked up.. a film stays on t he bottom... heavy particulates that can't make the hard turns when air comes down the center tube, then has to go back up into the canister, those particles get stuck in the oily film on the bottom of the can.

Yea, they probably work entirely to well. I should switch every thing I own with an engine over to oil bath. Oil bath is awesome for low rpm, 2000rpm or less, but everything operates past 2000 rpm mark repetitively. As JC-jetro pointed out they cant milk ya as much with oil baths filters. Makes me wonder how engines run longer at higher rpms this day and age with modern conveniences such as disposable air filters, poor quality diesel and a cornucopia of different grades/ quality of motor oil to choose. What is the tractor word coming to....

I'll be more than happy if my new NH7610s runs/lives as long as my old ford 5000 ( wich runs great.. and starts faster/easier than my 7610s does too.. ).. similar engine.. old one is on oil bath. new is on disposable air filter and is serviced regularly.

( not saying the oil bath is better.. or good for other apps.. just that for the apps it was used on.. it's a decent filter.. )

I have a Boomer 1530 (I think similar size/hp as your TC24) and I purchased a bunch of air filters back in 2000 and they were $15.32 (inner) and $38.93 (outer). I know that was 9 years ago, but at least it gives you an idea of cost.
