Is anyone else paying 40 bucks for an air filter for their TC24DA?

I can't remember exactly, because I haven't bought one yet this year. IIRC, it was around $24 for for the outer. I usually end up changing it once a year and the inner every 2 or 3 years. I guess I should say, I've changed the inner once.:D

I think I'm paying that or more for the inner and outter on my 7610s... inner is about 20$ by itself IIRC.. outter may be something like 35$

that 1-gallon paint can sized hyd filter is a $whopper$ too!.. of course.. that's all peanuts compaired to the 13+g of oil she takes in the common sump.. that and oh 3 r so gallons of oil in the crankcase.. plus the engine oil filter...
servicing jut that one tractor hit the paycheck hard.. kicker is I got his lil brother a ford 5000 to do as well... except... crankcase is just 1qt oil inthe oil bath filter and 2.5g for the crankcase.. plus 10-13g oil in the belly.

I've been washing these air filters for nearly 30 years now (most recently for my TC-40D)using liquid detergent and very warm water. No blowing with air while wet though or you'll put a hole in it. I bought one extra of each (outer and inner) when I bought the tractor in 2001 and still have yet to return to buy another. I only change (and clean) the inner one about every second or third time that I do the outer.

I can't afford to replace the engine on my 7610s.. so I'm buying new filters as needed. :(

I like my oil bath air filter. Nothing can swim thru the oil moat in to the engine. Cost me next to nothing to change the oil and clean the bowl:)

I also like the oil bath on my 5000.. the oil pot on the bottom is huge.. I didn't check.. but i bet it takes nearly a quart of oil.

Umm... with the oil bath filters which I agree is awsome when ground is level, how bout' operating on a good, long incline or a steady side hill or ditch line where the oil is not level and not catchn' all the particulate from brush hoggn? I agree with soundguy, 40 bucks or so is cheaper than new engines every other year, Ounce of prevention=pound of cure.:D

Good point Spruce,

From my estimation the suction air tube in to the engine only sits about 1/4" or so from the bottom of the bowl. I certainly would be doing a wheelie:D close to over turning the rig before engine sucks some unfiltered by pass air. I think you have to have more than 45 degrees of tilt in any of four directions and at that point clean air to the engine would way way down on my list of priorities. Ain't nothing wrong with making the bowl even deeper. They like to milk you all they can for as long as they can.:D The more consumables, the more $$$ spent on maintenance.

Well for my 2 cents worth, maybe 1 cent, I don't like the oil bath on my 1700 and have thought of changing to an aftermarket washable filter.
