Any recommendations on what brand of Rotary Cutter to purchase for a new MF 1528? It's recommended to run a 4' cutter but according to the dealer it can run a 5'. Any advice on whether a 5' would be fine or if it will be to much abuse would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
-Mike

I use a conservative rule of thumb- 5 hp at the pto per foot of rotary cutter. What HP do you have available?

Make sure that your cutter is not too heavy for the tractor. Some folks buy the heavy duty cutters and put them on compact tractorsThey weigh in at 1000-1100 lbs and lifting them with the three point picks the front wheels off the ground or lightens the steering and makes it less effective.

I have a 5' on my 1528 but I dont cut anything over 3' to 4' deep and I overlap the rows. Mine is not a super heavy duty unit so I bought it in mind of what I wanted to do. All I cut is overgrown weeds no saplings or deep grass. I have never had a power problem where it couldnt handle it. I think the 4' is too narrow.

I chose a Woods 54 inch rotary cutter on my 1531 so I wouldn't have to decide between the 4 or 5 ft!

I ran a 5' on my 1433V when I had it; it is a medium duty (made for) Massey Ferguson brand, MF 2005, 735 pounds.

I have a 1528, and run a 5 footer alday long, I run the fronter 1060. bought mine as a package deal and came with a mf 1005 cutter, and it was a junk.
but the fronter 1060 is fantastic

The "1000" series was a light-duty cutter, the "2000" series like the one I have is much heavier.

It looks like there are plenty of 5' options out there so I think I'll go for it. Thanks for all the feedback!
