I just have to put my word in, i wouldn't give you a penny for one. the only practical purpose would be as a grapple. othe than that just a piece of heavey iron. they do bend farily easy, you don't see many here in N.H. ledge and boulders bend the hell out of them. and not worth the loss in capacity

There may be ONE really good use for a grapple, Gone, and that is...picking up old Yugos and dumping them in an abandoned strip mine.

I think you'll find different quality 4n1 buckets. Mine is heavy duty and has 2" tubular steel reinforcement. I could imagine there must be a light duty model out there that is causing some people problems. But the issue isn't with the 4n1 functionality per se, it's with the steel used in that particular model.

moonstruck,

I have a 4n1 on my JD. And I have said many times, you take
away the 4n1 and large percentage of my use of the tractor
goes with it. I have moved tons of rocks, gravel and trees with
my 4n1. The only ding I have in this thing is the one we put on
the edge of the bucket when we unloaded the box blade when
the tractor/equipment was delivered. I move over 330 tons
of ABC to build my driveway. My tires show wear from that
work but not the bucket.

The bucket is a heavy duty one, I don't know what it weighs,
but it has to be up there. I comprimised and got a 5' bucket
instead of a 6' to match my tractor width. Its a problem
sometimes but then I have been at the limit of the FEL more
than once. Sometimes I could barely lift stumps and I'm sure
with the 6' 4n1 I would not have been able to get the job
done. Sometimes you win sometimes you loose. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My 4n1 is one tough piece of equipment.

Later,
Dan
