Does the following picture show that I am all set to add a 3rd function implement (root grapple) by just adding a controller (also pictured). I am assuming with very limited info that I run lines from the outlets picture to the controller and then from the controller out to the cylinder on the root grapple. Is that all I need?

Is that a T or elbow off the couplers? And is it a joy stick SCV controlling the couplers now?
What tractor do you have?

It is a John Deere 1070 and it appears as though they are "T" connections that come off the mid mount SCV.

Sorry forgot to tell you that yes there is a factory joystick that controls the loader functions.

Interesting setup... I just got back from Home Depot with some ball valves! Have a water plumbing project.

So, if I had to venture a guess... it looks like the previous owner used the loader boom lift function (or the loader curl function) to operate a log-splitter or some other stationary hydraulic implement.

Turning the ball valves "off" re-routes the hydraulic flow to the Quick Disconnects at the bottom of the "T". After hooking up the male connectors to the QD's - the hydraulic functions can be controlled from the loader joystick on the tractor.

Unfortunately, you cannot simply plumb in a single spool valve from the "T'd" Quick Disconnects and have 3 hydraulic functions. The ball valves limit you to one function at a time - loader flow or QD flow.

There are posts and posts regarding the different approaches that can be taken to achieve multiple hydraulic outlets here on TBN. The JD owning/operating forum is a good place to start - look for posts/threads from Kennyd. Long time contributor on TBN on hydraulics. JJ is another very knowledgeable hand on the subject of hydraulics.

Electric diverters, multiple spool valves using the power beyond circuit - lot's of good ideas - with pictures.

Best of luck.

What pressure does your tractor's hydraulic system operate at? I doubt those ball valves from Home Despot are rated for the pressures commonly found in hydraulic systems. I know I wouldn't use them, especially if they are the Made in China variety with the mystery-metal they use over there.

If you're new to hydraulics, read up on how and why to avoid hydraulic fluid injection injuries.

Dittto above post. I would want steel valves, rated above system pressure.

I did not put them on it was that way when I bought it...but I think I am getting a better understanding of what they did based on what you guys have said. In reality I do not have the capabilities to have the third function without adding a diverter. This system as they created it simply re-routes one of the factory scv remotes for another function it does not add another function.

I would still change the brass valves for steel before they fail and cause an injury. You can NOT be too careful when it comes to high pressure hydraulics.
