I have had this 3pt splitter that I built back in the early 80"s running off the pto. It has had some rough use and I am replacing the I beam, knife, rebuilding the ram and putting a 25hp kohler and a 1.8cu in. pump from northern hyd. When the pump came I was surprised at the size of it. I hope the engine can pull it without too much difficulty. With a bore displacement of 282 on the cyl it should cycle in about 5 seconds. Hope to get this thing going in a couple of weeks. I am working out of town, so only having a week end to get anything done is a pain when trying to get parts together.

Was going to use those three prong connectors with the rubber damper in between to hook the pump to the engine. Then got the idea to use a universal joint to make a direct coupling. Has anyone had any experience with the difference with the two couplings.

The name for them is called "LoveJoy" couplers, I think you would be better off with them rather than a U-Joint.

Use the Lovejoy coupler. It helps to isolate vibration from the engine to the pump.
