How tight do you make your turnbuckles on your 3pt sway links. My dealer said make as tight as you can to stop swaying. Just want to make sure this is the correct way /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif If so it sure seems like alot of stress on them. Can they handle this /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Right now I use a wrench to tighten them down then tighten the lock nut.

I hand tighten mine..so far so good no sway problem.

Having just had to replace mine (BX2230) with the B2630 Conversion, I will concur that if they are too loose, they won't last long. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I honestly don't pay mine any attention. I hand tightened them about 300 hours ago and haven't messed with them since. They're a little sloppy now and I get a little sway. I change attachments a lot and work them hard with no probs.
Cheers!

I hand tighten mine so there is not sway. The stress put on the arms is greater when an attachment is swaying back and fort than a non swaying implement.

av8r2230, when you say to loose was your implement swaying back and forth to were it stripped the threads on the turnbuckles or did they snap?

I don't know which ones, but when I owned my Kubota BX 2200, I remember seeing a list in the operators manual. Maybe someone who owns a BX could post the list.

I’m not sure how I can hand tighten them? On mine the turnbuckles have a threaded rod with a ¾ nut welded in the center. It’s next to impossible to turn by hand to draw the arms to the base of the pin far enough. So I use a wrench to turn the nuts to were there is no slop in the turnbuckles anymore and the arms are butt up against the implement to were they will not move anymore. When I do this the turnbuckles are stiff but not super stiff. I can still wiggle them 1/8 inch. The first time I installed the implement I went by the advice of my dealer and he said make them as tight as you can. I did this and it just seemed like a lot of stress on them for a piece of threaded rod. Looked like this could be a good recipe for a stripped or snapped rod. So now I get them to were the arms are tight against the implement and I can wiggle the turnbuckle about a 1/8 inch. Does this sound correct??

My implement is a 5ft woods backblade.

Take those suckers (turnbuckles) off! Do the conversion that many of us'ns have done. It's faster, easier and more gooder than the knuckle busting turnbuckles.

I bent the threaded rod on one and snapped the welds on the other. I could have bought one replacement and made one good one from the parts I had left, but, the single replacement screw-type turnbuckle ($65) was more expensive than the B23630 conversion parts for both sides ($57).

Edit: My old turnbuckles were hard to turn too. I often used a wrench to adjust them, quite a pain in the kiester. Therefor when I put on the trailer hitch to move the trailer full of cut up tree chunks I didn't tighten them because the bagger was going to go right back on again. Well, the trailer bucked a bit and whamo- two wrecked turnbuckles. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Should the 3pt sway links be tight against the implement or against the lynch pins?????? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It depends on if your chains/turnbuckels are inside or outside your lower 3pt arms.
Chains/turnbuckles can only pull to tighten so it will either pull the arms together or apart.
My last tractor pulled them together, my current one pulls them apart against the pins.
So it just depends on your tractor.

How about the Conversion if your chain/turnbuckles are mounted on the outside of the lower 3PT arms? I don't think there's enough clearance for the tire scrub. Anybody changed over the outside mounts?

I think this looks like a great mod for the smaller B tractors that have the stays on the inside. I'm sure they are on the inside because of the smaller wheel width. Plus the lift arms must go out to hook up a standard 3PT item. I don't know how yall did without this before. I have an L model and the stays are on the outside, this would be nice but I just replaced the chains (clevis adjuster only) with some of the screw types on Ebay (link below). With the stays on the outside I only need to adjust the max inside reach because I can spread them to put pn my mowers. A friends Ford 4630 has slip type on the outside but of course this is a larger tractor and is built to handle various classes of 3PT item. This Ford also has the lift eye ends that move in and out, very very handy.

You asked about how other tractors stay their implement, on my brother in laws older Ford 6600, it uses a single solid bar one side. The bar is attached with a pin near the axle and then slips over the 3PT pin. After you slip it on you then put on the lynch pin. This locks the movement left and right. No fuss either.
