I just bought a used finish mower (first one i've had) and i'm trying to figure out how to resolve a problem where it's way too close to the tractor. If I lift it up, the tires for the mower jam into the tires for the tractor. If I adjust the top link it wont but then I have to re-adjust it when i go to mow. Even when it's only slightly up it can rub.

I'm wondering if a quick hitch would be the best solution or is there anything else that could help here?

It's a pegasus 5ft mower and LS XG3025 tractor

The inboard end of your Top Link is now pinned/connected to the second-from-top pair of holes.

Try pinning/coonecting the inboard end of your Top Link to the lowest pair of holes.

This will set the mower back a tad.

Enough? I do not know. But worth a try.

Top Link adjustment of the rear height of your mower will increase.

I am having a hard time seeing but does the wheel frame bolt to the deck or is it welded?

If it is bolted on, it looks like you may have an option of moving the frame back to different bolt holes. That would give you the clearance you need.

Thanks Jeff, I'll give that a try tomorrow and see what it does. I think i'll have to set it back a good bit though cause when i raise it up it really pushes hard into the tires. But sometimes a little goes a long way.

K5lwq - I noticed that hole as soon as i posted and was wondering the same thing. I'm pretty sure it's welded though. If I zoom in on the picture I'm pretty sure i can see the weld. I'll double check though in the morning.

I also notice that your Lifting Rod stirrups are pinned to the Lower Links through the lower of two holes on the stirrups. The default or normal pin position is the top holes on the right and left stirrups.

Moving the pins to connect through the upper holes will lift the Lower Links 4" to 5" and may improve the positioning of other implements.

In my case, I only use the lower stirrup holes when pulling a Tool Bar Cultivator and I want to sink the cultivating shovels 4" deeper into the soil.

Higher holes = higher lift

Lower holes = lower lift.

Your threaded right Lifting Rod needs grease. Without grease it will eventually seize.

The galvanized (silver) piece of steel between your mower and the tractor Lower Links of your tractor has a pin adjustment on the mower end. It appears that the intermediate piece is at its max extension, but perhaps there is one additional hole permitting an increment of additional space between the mower and the Lower Link pins.

If not, a welding shop could fab up replacement intermediate pieces 3"-4"-5" longer quite easily if you take in one of the originals as a pattern.

Here is the manual for a Pegasus finish mower. Not sure if it is your model or not. But, if you look at the drawing on page 6, it looks like the frame is bolted and yours look to be installed backwards. If you can unbolt it just flip it around. I think your front wheels should be the back.

The reason I keep going here is there should never be a clearance issue on a mower like that. At least I have never seen one.

Thank you! I've never moved the stirrups, that's the way it came, but I'll give that a shot too. Thanks for the education!

The plate that the tractor connects to is at the last hole available. They had the bolt facing in when I got it, but I switched it around. The guy I bought it from had a smaller tractor. That is a good point about fabricating a new piece. I have a friend that's a good machinist and would probably make me something.

Sadly I noticed the grease need as well when i was looking at the picture. Maybe I need to start taking more pictures and looking through them to find other things I should attend to. I get so caught up with what i'm doing I lose sight of those type of things. Thanks for pointing it out!

Thanks for the manual link. It actually didn't have one with it.

I stand corrected, the wheel frame is bolted on, it looks symmetrical, but unless i'm looking at it wrong it does appear I'll be able to shift wheel bar frame back one hole so the front is closer to the mower.

Bingo! I think that is the answer. Should be a easy fix as long as the front wheels don't hit the deck now.
