I own a Kubota BX25. Which hydraulic lines do I use to hook up my splitter?
There's three lines: Outlet, Return and Power beyond

You plug your log slitter into the PB circuit, and run the log splitter OUT to tank.

What do I do with the outlet hose? When the Backhoe is removed you loop it back to PB. Should I Tee the PB?

NO tees in the pressure line.

Just reconnect/loop the line you removed to access the PB pressure line.

Keep the OUT hose with the log splitter.

I am not a hydraulic expert but I remember hearing a while back that depending on the size of the cylinder on the splitter you may not have enough fluid in the BX's hydro to safely run the cylinder out unless the splitter has a tank. Is this true J_J?

A 5 in cyl and 24 in stroke, and a rod size of 2.5 = 2.039 gal.

The BX contains 12.4 qts.

I really don't know how low the fluid can go and still operate.

Once the cylinder is full the system volume should only change by the volume of the rod which is 2 quarts for a 2.5" x 24 rod. Just make sure to add fluid the first time the splitter is used. A 3" cylinder will make you much happier with that hydraulic system. There are very few logs a 3" cylinder will not split.

If the splitter just has the typical in and an out, you can run the tractor out to the splitter in and the power beyond to the splitter out. There is some loss of protection in that configuration and you should avoid simultaneous operation of the splitter and 3ph, and avoid lifting more than the splitter with the 3ph. Hopefully the loader is upstream of the power beyond connection so it can provide a relief path and does not add conflict.

If you have a remote valve, you can operate the splitter from that with a bungee on the lever and you will be fully protected.

The other way to be fully protected is to have a power beyond valve configuration on the splitter that uses all 3 connections just like your backhoe. Most splitter valves do not have that feature.

Thanks guys. I guess all I need now is to get a couple of hoses made. The specs for the splitter call for 1/2" hoses. The quick connections on the BX are 1/4". What should I use?

What is the actual port size of the valve that is supplying fluid to the log slitter.

I would use 1/2 in hose and QD coupling.

Just use all 1/2 QD's.

If the splitter just has the typical in and an out, you can run the tractor out to the splitter in and the power beyond to the splitter out.

I am not sure I understand your statement.

The log splitter will obtain fluid from the PB adapter from the loader valve, and the OUT will go to tank or a return hose. .

JJ, Here is the original post:

I am assuming what he describes as "outlet" is coming from the loader power beyond and his "Power Beyond" is supplying the 3-point. I recommended hooking up the splitter in the power beyond loop between the loader and 3-point, taking some precautions because the splitter valve is not really made for power beyond.

He could connect the splitter between the loader and the tank return but the 3-point will not function. This will be inconvenient since the splitter is on the 3-point.

I agree, and to keep the valve from possible damage, once the log splitter is setup, he could disconnect the PB QD and plug in the log splitter and run the log splitter OUT to tank..

Switching back to 3pt would only take a few minutes.

A two way hyd valve would also work to switched between log splitter and 3pt. .
