Since I started following this board, I've learned about a lot of 3PH attachments that I probably need. Most of us are familiar with the commodity type stuff at TSC, but buying a more specialized thing, such as a hydraulicly controlled snow blade, is too much like mail order. You see it on the internet or the dealer shows you a brochure. Or maybe my area doesn't support enough dealer inventory that others do. Another recent post mentioned how suprised he was with the quality of the implements that just arrived. He apparently had to order them more or less blind and lucked out. It could have easily gone the other way although he may have relied on the good feedback from this board.

Question 1: How do you guys get more information on implements.

Question 2: Would a show like the Farm Progress Show this month in Illinois be likely to have CUT stuff or are they more toward serious farming?

Thanks,

John

order ... more or less blind and lucked out

I did that very thing with the very first implement I bought. It was a box blade from First Choice. I didn't even have feedback on the board on which to rely at that time as First Choice was a new outfit at the time.

I based my decision solely on posts by and conversations with Pieter Van Den Berg at First Choice. I was elated with my purchase when it arrived and still am. Since that time they've gotten a lot of good "reviews" here from folks who've bought their products. Of late, Corriher Implements seems to be a popular supplier as they have found a very inexpensive way to ship First Choice implements to about anywhere in the US.

To answer your questions in order, 1) I've found this board to be an absolutely tremendous source of information on implements as well as about anything else, and 2) While I'm not familiar with the IL show, I'd think while it might be heavy on larger equipment (if for no other reason than there's a lot more of it out there), I'd also think you could find a lot on implements for your size equipment, too.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We have several Institutions of higher learning linked to our website for educational purposes for the students--You will find pictures, prices, brief description of new and used equipment--Good place to get a benchmark of what is available for the CUT and learn the different terminology for the various implements--Let me know what you think?--Ken Sweet

"....We have several Institutions of higher learning linked to our website for educational purposes for the students...."

Color me ignorant but I didn't find this on your site. Granted, I didn't click on everything but it appears to be a web retail site.

"--Good place to get a benchmark of what is available for the CUT and learn the different terminology for the various implements--"

Didn't really see this either, unless you mean in the descriptions of what you are selling. Even there I didn't see anything that provides a better understanding of the terminology.

You asked to tell you what we think. If you are indeed trying to educate the "student" or inform the buyer of what is available, then do so...plainly. Quite frankly, after visiting the site, I thought your posted reply to John was misleading. Perhaps I missed something and if I did, please let me know. I too am interested in learning more about implements.

Ther is no reason you would find this on his website; However, if you were one of these institutes of higher learning I suspect you you would find the link, just as he said. ....All we need is another new guy coming on here with an attitude.

Yes I am a new guy. I apologize if I came across as having an attitude. I clicked on the thread because I am interested in learning more about attachments. I followed the link posted in the reply because the reply indicated that I would learn more. I didn't see the things I expected. I expected to see institutions of higher learning linked to the website and didn't see them. (The poster did not say that his site was linked to theirs but they were linked to his. Perhaps this is simply semantics but it is the way I understood it.) I expected to learn more about terminology. I didn't find that either. The poster asked for feedback. I gave it as I saw it. There was no offense meant, apparently it was taken.

As a new guy, I am starved for information. When someone offers a link purporting to give it, I greedily accept it. I don't mind someone marketing me as, IMO, was the intent of the poster. But what prompted me to respond was the poster asking for feedback on his site. I offered that I did not think it provided what he suggested it was going to and I took that as misleading.

I'm curious if John found the site to address any of his questions.

Ken,

I apologize for the wording in my earlier posting. I used too strong a wording. Just another case of me opening my mouth to exchange my feet.

The point I was trying to make was that I expected to see some things on your site, based on your post, and didn't. Perhaps I didn't dig deep enough or I misinterpreted your post.

Again, my apologies.

I too would like to see the variety of implements that are out there - but they are hard to find - even on the net. Forget the local dealers.
Case in point - From a thread about using pallets to stack wood on the Kubota section - I've been looking for a 3pt pallet lift. Just a simple one. The local dealers only quote prices of $600 and up(deluxe all adjustable versions). I tried TSC - no luck. Called KingKutter three times and got 3 different answers but no way of buying one even if I could trust what they told me(which was different than the last time I called).
This happens all the time -> Here, I have money and I want to buy your product. They won't take the money. I've never been able to figure this one out.

Welcome to the hangout, Dutchman. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Some folks like newcomers, some folks don't. Me, I like new people, keeps the place interesting. Some feel threatened I guess? Ken is pretty good dealer that hangs out here, but it can be surprising to find a dealer link when you are thinking you are going to an eductional link. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Without the fear of new people, this is a good thread. So much of this CUT equipment is not stocked in traditional ag places, and we are doing more & more internet types of purchases. But tractor equipment is best seen before bought.

I would think lawn & landscaping shows would have more of this equipment than ag shows?

Good questions.

Gentlemen,

Thanks for your responses.

I wasn't so lucky on my first blind order for a pto powered chipper about 12 years ago. It was a tinkertoy but I had agreed to their no refund policy on special orders. Never again.

No, I wasn't mislead by Ken's post since I knew what to expect on his website. Like Dutchman, you hate to see a nice board turned into a billboard, but the dealers on this board restrain themselves and contribute too. Hopefully one of them can comment on these annual farm shows or recommend a way to see implements they can't inventory.

The landscaping show approach is a good idea. Anyone know of any in the midwest?

I'm going to try to attach an Exhibitors' list link for the Illinois Farm Show this month. All the major tractor manufacturers are there (need another tractor too) Its just a question of if they bring the smaller models.
