I was clipping pasture with my 1997 NH 3930 4 WD pulling a 6 foot rotary cutter. All of the sudden there was a severe grinding sound and vibration. I thought I had hit a hugh rock and destroyed my rotary gear box but that wasn't the case. I uncoupled the cutter and engaged the PTO and it turned but made a grinding sound and vibrated. I took tne tractor to the shed in 4th gear and it seemed there was vibration coming from transmission. The tractor is a shuttle shift with 950 hours. I know this is bad news but any suggestions as to how bad and the cost. Thabk you!

The PTO consists of gears, shafts, bearings, and a clutch that occupy space from the flywheel to the rear of the tractor. Nobody here can say for sure what is broken. Nobody standing next to your tractor can, either. It is possible that the shaft running through the bottom of your transmission is broken at the front end. Seen it a few times.
