380 shot shell

380 shot shells.

First step is to turn the .223 case back and I built a little fixture to trim them to .980"

Once locked into the fixture I rough cut them long then hit it on a disk sander that gets it to .980"

I used Winchester SPP to ignite the N310 under a cardboard wad with 60 grains of #12 shot (about 250 pellets), then a plastic overshot card crimped in place using an old RCBS 45 ACP round nose seat die.

Not the best pattern in the world but not too bad with the small payload.

Even cycles the pistol, here is a video.

Sweet. With the popularity of the little pocket .380's, I've been surprised that CCI hasn't introduced a shot shell. Seems like it would work on snakes. Do they seem to have enough velocity for decent penetration?

I don't want to risk damage to my chronographs but I imagine they are "moving on out" for a 60 grain payload to cycle the action where heavier projectiles are the norm.

that is great, i have been asking around about anyone knowing how to make those. got laughed at mostly.

how much did you turn off? what diameter?

this is the only reason i have a 22 mag instead of a 380 around the farm. i like the shot for rattlers.

Those are cool, but that seems like a lot of work. Did you say the 223 brass is trimmed to make that shoulder? Also did I understand you correctly, that they cycle the action? My store bought 9mm shot shells sure don't.

Why start with a .223 case?

Why not start with a 9mm Luger case?

9mm case is not long enough. The .223 turned down "extension" takes the space that would normally be the bullet on the .380.
