I want to add a block heater to my jd 3720 engine. The dealer says it is part number AR87167. Dealer can't say over the phone for sure where it goes on the engine. I found a threaded plug on the left side, below and aft of the alternator, with a 3/8" square recess. Is this where the heater threads in? The problem is, there is a large low pressure hydraulic formed hose blocking straight access to this location.
The heater may come with instructions, so they may steer me straight. But I thought I'd ask before driving twenty miles to buy it, possibly having to return it. I don't want the heater if it's something I can't install myself.
Thanks!

I’ve installed block heaters on a 2305 and a 2530 using the screw out plug you described. Can you loosen up the connections to the hydraulic hose to aid the install? Good Luck. Frank

Yes, I can remove the low pressure hose, if this is the correct location for the heater. The boss I'm looking at is an inch and a sixteenth diameter, approx.
I may have to go buy the heater just to find out more info.

The heater is about 2" behind and 4" down from the alternator. Hope this helps. It is the thing with the red cap.
Reviewing this the picture is very small and I don't know why. You can blow it up a little if unsure

Thanks for the pics! That's the spot I assumed it might mount. Guess I'll go buy one tomorrow. It's pretty cold here now in Minnesota. Merry Christmas.

I checked the JD site. It is more sales literature than ever. Less available technical content than the last time I used it. Unless I'm missing something, or they are hiding it well.

Had a service guy from local jd dealer come over today to install the block heater. It does fit as you guys described, aft and slightly below the alternator. It's a steel plug, 1/2" square recess. I would not have gotten it out myself. This service guy has done several, he says they are always tough. He tried everything, including a breaker bar with me hanging on it while he tapped the plug with a pneumatic hammer chisel thing. We tried liquid wrench. He twisted a snap on 1/2" extension. The final solution was heat. He got out a Steinel heat gun, got all the wires out of the way, set it on hi, braces it in position focusing at the plug, and we talked airplanes for ten minutes. Then he started applying force again and snap! It came out. It had evidence of green loctite in the threads. All done. The plug is pretty beat looking, so it's a trophy. It was starting to rust a bit. Tractor is a 2009. Changed coolant to latest technology.
