3720 Suction Trans Filter

Changed my Hydo/Trans oil and filter for the first time. Noticed the filter cap now has a slow leak. Plan to start over; this time adding a new o-ring on the cap (don't remember seeing an o-ring the first time, nor did the owner's manual mention one. However, noticed one on the JD website part drawings). Question: Since I have not started the mach., do you think its okay to use the same filter after I re-install and re-fill?

can you raise the front of the tractor and remove the filter

maybe you wont loose all the fluid and can top up after

I'd say use the filter if it isn't damaged

P/N LVU17893. It is inside the cover. Drain the oil into clean containers and use it and the filter again. If you go to jdparts, and do an alphabetical search on your model, it will show you some details.

Thanks ALL. the JD Parts drawing was very helpful. First time changing the Hydro/Trans in my 3720 (or any tractor for that matter). It had been leaking from the canister lid where the suction filter goes. the JD site showed two rubber O-rings (one on each side of the filter) that I did not see come out of the mach. I ordered both rings but during the re-do, decided to only use the ring on the canister lid side. the back o-ring was way larger than the filter and seemed it would just float in the canister. My guess is that over the years, they changed the filter design but (due to costs) did not re-design this part of the tractor. all working fine with no leaks.
