For a couple years now the safety start swirch (depressing clutch) has been causing the starter to click but not turn over. And after playing with it for awhile it would start. I always believed the switch on the clutch pedal was out of adjustment. While tractor was down with fuel shutoff solenoid bad I thought I would adjust switch. Switch was good with no adjustment. Starter solenoid is bad. Price is thru the roof. $450 for just the solenoid! Has anyone found a cheap price for starter or solenoid. The parts for these are large! Starter is close to 1000.00 Fuel shut off solenoid was 250...SO any one replaced any of the starter parts or starter at reasonable prices?

On my BX the contact plate and lugs inside the starter were pitted from arcing causing the problem you describe. At $700+ for a new starter from K I took the starter apart and dressed up the plate and lugs to new condition. Reinstalled and the starter is fine. You may be able to buy a rebuild kit instead of replacing.

The soleniod is crimped and sealed on one end and can't pull apart. But a starter at the ebay site looks good. Hopefully 3316 and 3616 have same part #.

Before you spend the big bucks on a starter. How did you test the clutch switch? I've seen this problem many times. Checking for continuity may not work. you need to check voltage. Make sure 12v is going into the switch and most importantly 12v is coming out! I've seen these switches fail under a load. Continuity is good but under a load not enough power gets to the starter.

Went to Pacso, a local starter and battery company and he said the new solenoid should be here wed. 38.00 so going to give it a shot.

Well I wasted that 38.00. Put the new solenoid on starter and installed and same issue. This time I bypassed clutch safety switch thinking that would solve my issue. Wrong again. If the dealer wasn't so busy or so far I would take it in for repair. Any one had any starter problems with 3616. I was hoping someone else would have found something that I can't...

NO JUMPING! Thats cheating and can be misleading. Whats the voltage at the switch? Check the seat switch harness too. I've see them get cut if you have a BH on the unit.

There are more saftey switches you need to check, there is a total of 3 or 4 depending if you have mid pto or not.
1: clutch switch
2: HST pedal has a switch
3: rear pto switch
4: mid pto switch ( if equipped)

Any one of these or a combination of these going bad can drop the voltage to the starter solenoid causing a click from the sol. and starter not to crank.
As mentioned in another post make sure you have 12v at small wire on sol. when turning the key, if not check each switch and find the voltage drop and that should be your bad switch.

ALso be sure your connections are good at the battery... the small bands will crumble away if not cleaned and taken care of.. and will cause this issue also.

Update on starting issue. After jumping or bypassing Every safety switch, with four hours invested finding and bypassing I still have the old click like my battery is weak or bad connection. So I go back to the NEW soleniod. Put 12 volts direct on solenoid bypassimg the entire tractor and still have the click. It has always started but only after some tries. There is a plunger inside the solenoid that when 12v is applied, moves to send voltage to engage starter. So I didn't need the new soleniod. Took solenoid apart cut one turn off the plunger spring and everything back to normal. I have started more than 200 times without any clicking. Finally fixed! I hope this saves others time and money on the 16 series. All safety switches hooked back up except seat switch, never found the wires going to switch, maybe cabs only have the switch, no wires.
