Hi Folks, I have an issue that has just started in that I can't get the clutch to disengage. I've shortens the link all it will go but still nothing. Can't even get it to slip. I can get it into low gear by leaving the left shifter in gear and despite the grinding get it into low on the right shifter. Any suggestions on something to look for or any other adjustments I'm not aware of before I have to split the tractor? Any ideas on the cause?
Thanks in advance for any replies

Well I tied the clutch pedal in the down position to see if it would unstick but I think it's more to it than that. Maybe some internal linkage? I considered possibly the throwout bearing bit it wasn't making any noise before it quit working. Is there any way to access the clutch to see what's going on without splitting the tractor? Any ideas?

Does the pedal feel like it used to before the clutch stuck? Will yours start in gear? I assume this happened while the rig was sitting for a long period? Some manuals advise blocking the clutch pedal down for long-term storing.
I'd adjust it back so you have maybe an inch of free play at the pedal. Try driving in an open area in 4th or 5th gear with your foot down on the clutch and stomp one brake pedal, then the other while keeping revs up. Sometimes a shock load to the clutch will break it free. Some guys chain the tractor to a stump and try the same thing, though there are more risks in that if you get frisky.
I just tried a "stuck clutch" search on this site and got poor results. Here's one: Siezed clutch
Good luck - that's a real irritation if all was well previously.

Thanks for the reply Jim, I really appreciate it. The tractor had been working fine and I used it fairly regularly. I guess it had been sitting maybe 2-3 weeks. And actually someone else was on the tractor when it went out so I'm not sure if it was operating properly at first or if it just quit. I wish I could remember how the pedal felt before but it does seem like it maybe less resistance than before. I guess this would suggest something internally (linkage) broken? Any guesses as to what it could possibly be? Thanks

Well good news! It broke free today after having the pedal blocked for a few days. I readjusted the free play and there's not a lot of clutch left but it should last a few more months anyway. Thanks again for the help Jim
