I have large Ponderosa pine and the weight of a big one ( 34-38 inches) runs about 3200 lbs for a 10' chunk. A 30" x 10' chunk of white oak will weigh just about the same. IMHO, its safer to know your capacity before you try to lift something than to find out by trial & error.
Do a web search for "timber weight calculator" and it will tell you approximately what any type of log will weigh.
A tractor can jackknife faster than you will be able to react if you balance it on the front axle.
I've made a very simple chart which shows the weights of various lengths & diameters of P. pine.
Man, would I like to have a chunk of that white oak - for woodworking. Be safe..........
