To All:

I have a 3165 CC with a PTO problem and I am wondering if I am missing an adjustment for it. The two belts that come off of the engine and drive the mower drive shaft seem quite loose. In addition the outermost one keeps getting thrown off of the pulley. This requires me to shut everything down and then take off the two guard bolts and replace the belt. As I can do this with my fingers I think that the belts are far too loose. The PTO is a vacuum type and I cannot find an adjustment for it. Otherwise it functions normally. Any ideas?

Here is some ideas to try out for your PTO belt problem:

Make sure all the bolts holding the belt pulleys are tight
With the belts off the drive pulleys spin the pulleys by hand to make sure they spin freely
If there is any catching or noise when spinning the pulleys check for bad bearings
Make sure the drive shaft from the engine to the mower deck is running straight
Check the knuckle bearings on the PTO shaft to make sure they are okay
Check to make sure the intake shaft on the mower is tight and turns freely
Check the drive belts from engine to pulleys for stretching and wear
Try engaging the PTO at about 1/2 throttle to see if that helps any

good luck
