450 kodiak atv, looking at 3130,3430,3830,dk35,dk40,dk45
I went to the power show today in columbus, ohio.
I told the rep that I was thinking about a 3130 but unlike the one on the floor there I wanted the bigger 723 loader. He
then told me that I would hate that loader on that tractor. I told him that several people that have this configuration are very pleased with it. He then told me I was wrong and that
the loader would be so under powered that you would be unable to do almost anything with it. He then proceeded to tell
me that the only tractor that should use this loader is the 3830. I left and was not happy at all.

I have the 3130 W/LA723. I would take his advice and go with a bigger PTO hp tractor. The loader is OK, if you don't mind the tractor huffing and puffing when you go to lift 2" to minus rocks. I would sell more bottles and go with a bigger HP rig.....

First of all, I don't own a L3130. I do own the LA 723. Ramon49, the previous poster to me has had a big issue with his L3130 as you will read from his posts in the following link below. He appears to be the only one with this degree of disatisfaction. Lets just say he is extremely dissatisfied with virtually every aspect of the L3130. Others here will be adding their .02 cents but I'm fairly certain, no one here has had this level of dissatisfaction. There are many more that will tell you how satisfied they are with this L30 model, the least powerful of the L30 series excluding the L3430 which I think of as being identical. I use my LA 723 on a L3830 HST and do almost all my loader work at 2000 RPM or less period. There are times I use the low range, 0-4 mph. I also have the 72" bucket but believe there is a 65" available for the LA 723 as well. I suggest you find a dealer that will not only let you drive a L3130 and/or L3830 but use the loader in material. Ramon49's 3130

Couple things came to mind when I read your post. Do you think what he was trying to say is that the tractor rather than the loader would be the issue? Seems like the loader could possibly be a little slower on the 3131 as compared to the 3838 (function of hydraulic pump flow) but assuming system pressure is the same, both would be equally strong.

While as RAT says, Ramon49 is an unhappy camper, I do remember someone else in the past commenting how his L3130 seemed underpowered to him, after he traded in his B2910 for one. This seemed reasonable to me, since the power/weight ratio is much greater with the smaller B series.

If I remember right the other reason to have the larger loader on the L3130 is so you can use a BH90 backhoe on it if you want to at some point. With the smaller loader, it is my understanding with the L3130 one is limited to using the smaller BL4690...

In my view the only difference between the two loaders on the L series would be difference in weight between them. If indeed the larger loader had a larger bucket, then you could always take smaller bites if at some point in time you felt the weight was too great for the situation you were in. If bucket size were the same for both loaders, I doubt the difference in weight would be much of an issue on a L-series tractor.

I too would immediately leave and not be happy with that rep at all. Then I would go find a new rep that knew what he was talking about, get a 3130 with LA723 FEL and be happy ever after..... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As you can see by my signature, I have an L3130 w/LA723 and love it. I have the quick attach and got the 66" HD bucket which should be about the same weight as the 72" standard bucket. My place is sandy and I have no problem digging out and lifting a bucket full of wet sand. I normally run 1800-2000 rpm but when I plan to really work the tractor I will go up to 2450. I can operate at the lower rpm without hearing protection but not at rated speed.

I think that a lot of dissatifaction is in the operator's technique. This tractor is great as long as you operate within its capabilities and design.

Bill I haven't seen anyone as unhappy with their L3130 tractor purchase as Ramon49. When I was in the market to replace my tractor, I discussed with my dealer the L3130 vs the L3830. He said after having the L48, having the L3130 with HST I would be less impressed with it's power and promptly suggested I go to the L3830. He had no L3830's but had two L3130's. Perhaps Ramon49 needed my dealer prior to purchase. On my tractor as well as L3430's and L3130's, I would advise not filling or ballasting the tires. My personal experience says that don't need it provided you use a heavy box scraper or other device when using the loader. The reason is purely for helping the tractor go up hills, if that is not your case, then loading will have little impact on engine's ability to move the tractor. On the L3130 in particular, we are not talking that much HP at the PTO, 24 HST and 25.5 on GST. I would definitely buy the LA 723 for a variety of reasons. More beef, 4 bar linkage on the bucket allowing greater dump/curl angles and greater loader lift/curl ability. My dealer sells the L3130 with both loaders. I will gurantee he would not even provide the LA 723 for the L3130 if he thought it did not work well with the tractor. I suspect most loader work will be done in L (0-4 mph) shifting to M or H to move the load. But that is what you do on most tractors regardless of brand or transmission. I almost always go to 2nd in medium range on our NH 2120 12X12 or 2nd low range on our L4850 Kubota 8X8, both of which are shuttles and both with considerably more HP then the L3130.

HENRO,
I do think that he was refering to the tractor 3130, and not the loader. he said that the la723 was just too much loader on that and also the 3430. I had not read Ramon's post prior to posting this one. I had noticed that alot of tbn members seem to have chosen the 3130 and the la723 loader and been completely satisfied. the rep told me that if I got the 3130 I should only get the la513. I have previously talked on here about possibly getting the 3830 w/la723, but had not ruled out the 3130 W/la723 for my situation.

I would also add that this will be my first tractor purchase.

Get the 3130 with the LA723, you will not be disappointed.
