I have an 870 which sounds like it is about the same size. I use the three point hitch spear just fine. I made a front spear for my front end loader. I just use that to get the round bales off the trailer and into the barn. No high lifting as the round bales are about 1,000 pounds. I would not be doing any high lifting outside. In the barn on a level concrete floor I can lift a bit more to double stack. I do not use it like the hay farmers who have tractors twice the weight and 3 times the horsepower.
