3016 needs block heater

Are there any suggestions for heating engine to help with cold starting ? I don't find an installed block heater. Here in coastal British Columbia it may get to -10 C this time of year. A friend would never start any of his tractors, summer or winter, without plugging in a heater for 30 minutes.

My 3016 starts just as easy at -9F as it does at 50F. Your 10C is about 16F. I don't even think about it not starting at 16. That's not uncommon here at all.

I found it much easier to install an inline lower hose heater on my 2615. They are available at most auto parts stores. Just need to know your lower hose I.D. to get the right one. Mine would heat the coolant to about 140 deg F. making for easy starts.

I had mine plugged into a HD appliance timer. I had the timer set for 2 or 3 hours before I would get out of work so it would start easy when I got home. I saw no sense leaving it plugged in 24/7. Mine was a KATZ brand, 600W, and I forgot if mine was 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" ID hose. I do have a thread posted somewhere about mine. They cost around $40. at auto parts.
As the heater warmed up it would circulate warm water up into the block then through the upper hose to the radiator. I checked the temp with an infrared gun.
Katz lower hose heater
I was going to install one on my LS but there is no room on the lower hose. I keep the LS in the garage where it stays about 40 deg F in winter so really no need for a heater.
Found the link, mine is the Katz 14500 1 1/4" 600W.

I've been using a magnetic oil pan heater which has helped a bit, but seriously thinking about the hose heater. More importantly in cold weather is treatment of the diesel fuel with an anti-gel supplement such this one > Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost | Power Service

the dealer put on a magnetic heater - have not used it yet - should have last night but will soon. i guess they have them at tractor supply. not sure which one he put on. sorry - all i can give you. i was told leave it plugged in all night for best results. I guess we'll see. (this week).
