I have a 3015 and was wondering if anyone else has experienced a grinding type sound when taking off in high (C) range. This is not the gear whine but a deeper, short lived uhhhh sound that occurs on clutch release. Always in C range, sometimes in B range with a load and never in A range. Sorta like a bearing or bushing that has play maybe? I am told itsエ a common sound, maybe due to differential lock, but feel the need to ask around a bit. Thanks!

The diff lock should not make any noise when you don't have your foot on the pedal. If you try to engage it when one wheel is slipping it can make noise as it's engaging. (BTW you're not supposed to do that).

Do you have a 3015R or 3015H? H= Hydrostatic transmission. R= Gear drive.

With the H model, you don't have a clutch, nor a clutch pedal.

I have no idea what痴 up with the symbols. The tractor is an R.

Do you still get the noise coming off the clutch at idle or lower RPM setting? Is the noise after your foot off the clutch pedal or as you are releasing?

It occurs as I am releasing the clutch. Apparently it痴 not that common of a noise... I am told it痴 a sound common to the 15 series.

Try it at idle or just above idle and see if it is better.

I have this video of my tractor going on the road in high range. Can you tell if the noise is also on mine?

I didn稚 notice anything but what I would consider normal gear whine there, which mine does also, but I am referring to a different sound immediately upon release of the clutch, and only lasts a couple seconds. Posting the vid gives me the idea to post what I am talking about, if I can figure out how. I am not a computer guru....

You can upload the video to Youtube, set it as Unlisted ( if you want) then just post the link here.

A video would help a lot on trying to understand the exact noise.

It does it maybe worse with less throttle it seems but I still hear it.

My theory would be the clutch disk have glazed over a bit creating some shutter. Many people will clutch and take off at high RPM. This is almost as bad as riding the clutch. Really does shorten their life.

My suggestion is run it as is but make sure to always idle down to clutch. They can run a long time making that noise if one is careful.

K5,

I think we have guys with hydro tractors reporting the same noise?

Or am I getting 2 separate "noise" threads mixed up?

Yes they are reporting the same noise as ptsg. That noise remains a mystery.

The question now is if the known issue with some push rods not being heat treated is a contributing factor. Because of the limited number, it is most likely not the cause.

My noise definitely is clutch related as I only hear it with the petal down. It is from the metallic clutch disk rattling. I can limit my low end pedal travel and not hear anything.

I still don't think any of these are overly concerning but certainly I would like to know what the source is.

Edit: Sorry Slim, I guess I was tired last night. The OP of this thread has a manual transmission not the HTS. What he is experiencing is not brand related in my opinion. If I understand what he is describing, it sounds like clutch shutter to me.
