I need to change the spin-on fuel filter and water bowl filter on my JD 3005. Had an issue with water in the fuel, bowl and filter were solid ice during below-freezing days we had recently. I damaged the water bowl filter while thawing it out, and drained fuel until it ran clean, but there was lots of black-ish gunk in the filter, I can only assume it algae. I was in dire need of the tractor that night, so I used some pantyhoes/nylons (reluctantly donated by my wife, with a strange look on her face when I asked for them) as makeshift filter cover and put it back together. Have not used it since.
Due to the water separator bowl filter being compromised, I plan to 1- drain the fuel tank, now that temps are mid-40s and inspect the fuel, 2-replace damaged water filter, 3-replace spin-on filter on the motor.
Any tips or tricks, cautions, that will make this go easy? I'm ready to 'just wing it', been wrenching on stuff like this my whole life... but no shop service manual, so it doesn't hurt to ask if someone has pointers... 'there's a bleeder screw to crack here', etc. Air in the injection system can be a royal PITA!
