3000 20\'s Mowing with filled tires. Hard on grass?

For those of you that mow with a 3000 20 series: Do you have filled tires and if so does the tractor tear up your grass? I am ordering a 3720 with MMM in the next 2 weeks and one dealer advised that filled tires are highly recommended with the 300CX loader. I plan on getting a ballast box but they recommend both tire filling and ballast. What do the experts here say?

My 3720 with the larger filled Galaxy R 4 tires does not tear up grass. In fact, I can tell no difference in ground compaction with my tractor and my fathers 800# 335 garden tractor. It treads really softly. I would have no worry about getting your tires loaded. You may want to consider some rear wheel weights too with the deal. Due to the relatively short wheelbase of the 3000 series, err on the side of more ballast. I ordered a set for my tractor last week. The tractor does not NEED them, but it will make riding with a full bucket, especially gravel, a smoother ride. (I was wanting you to spend even more money --- I read your other post). Seriously, I would consider the weights, plus the filled tires, plus the ballast box if your can deal on the weights, too. The tractor's power can handle that extra ballast.

I have a 3520 with a cx loader, no ballast no loaded tires and its not tipsy at all. I do keep my 5.5 foot heavy duty box blade or the 6 foot finish mower attached at all times. The 3520 has met all my expetations !! I mow 10 acres and maintain an off road rc track, building jumps, berms ect.

Thats about what the dealer I'll likely choose was saying, that all that extra weight was unecessary and just overkill.

I was starting to wonder if he knew what he was talking about.

I don't think having filled tires is hard on the grass. It may actually be easier because you may spin less and skid less when braking. It does have to be dry though.

I have a 4410 with loaded R4's. The dealer recommended them with the 430 loader. I think they said it added about 600 lbs rimguard. Even with just the filled tires I'm able to get a rear tire off the ground without additional 3ph weight. For more serious digging I have a blade on the back, preferably the heavier boxblade.

my dealer stresses filled tires (rimguard) plus the ballast box off the 3pt - you will feel much more comfortable and be able to utilize the 300cx to its potential. cheers

Digging with the FEL and filling the bucket with dirt without extra ballast on the 3ph.

A ballast box with several hundred pounds or other heavy implement on the 3ph will keep the back end from coming off the ground.

Hmmmmm seems to be either

1. I have had loaded tires since day one, you need them!

or

2. I don't have loaded tires, just hanging something heavy off the back is enough.

Is this just a dealer profit booster, or is the weight really needed? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
