3 pt. won\'t hold arms down

I have a TC25

My 3 pt. lift arms raise, lower and hold position just fine as long as the load forces are downward. An upward force moves the lift arms upward with out any downward resistance. I checked the linkage and found that there is an additional arm, similar to the linkage arm but smaller, positioned directly behind (toward the seat) the linkage arm pivot point. It appears that the two arms are connected by a threaded rod and a pivoting "L" bracket. The bracket is broken and I can replace but the following is my question:

1. Does the nut on the threaded rod sit in front of the bracket; behind the bracket: or is there supposed to be a nut on the rod in front and behind the bracket to capture the "L" bracket and locate the proper position?

2. What does this additional linkage do for the 3 pt? How?

3. My concern is that if this is the means for preventing the arms from raising, does this have the forces of the 3 pt. attachments translated up through it when pushing in reverse rather than pulling?

I'm not exactly sure what you are looking at, but I think that the 3 pt. hitch does not provide downward force on this tractor. The arms will float up as the implement passes over the ground.

I agree with the other poster. Very few 3pt hitch system provide down pressure.

Hard to visualize this broken bracket.. got a pic of it?

In any case.. if it's purpose is to fix the lift in place.. then if you try to raise the lift, yes.. you can break things..

Re: 3 pt. won\'t hold arms down

If you are speaking about your TC25 and most any other tractor except a Belarus then the lower three point are doing what they were designed to do. The always float up. If there was down force on the arms it would unload the weight from the rear wheels and then the tractor would not pull the implement.

Re: 3 pt. won\'t hold arms down

Understood. Points taken.

The problem occurs when I use a draw bar between the lift arms and am towing a trailer load of tree rounds out of the woods. Going down hill the weight of the load shoves the arms upward under the slightest braking and jolts back down again once the brake is released. What would the remedy be?

Re: 3 pt. won\'t hold arms down

My TC33D came with a swinging draw bar (with stops if you want it to stay centered). It's mounted right between the lower 3 pt. hitch arms. It has a 1 1/4 inch hole near the end. I added a bushing and mounted a ball hitch with a 1" diameter shaft. I use that hitch for trailers.

Check out this post. It has a link to a 3PH receiver with a chain attached to stop hitch from raising when load shifts on a trailer. Click Here.

Re: 3 pt. won\'t hold arms down

On your TC33, do you have the same configuration regarding a threaded rod connecting the lift arm to another lever? It was concern over the impact resulting from the raised lift arms under load that caused me to notice the bracket was broken. I just assumed that it controlled a downward force, until uiformed in this post, so what does it control?

Re: 3 pt. won\'t hold arms down

The arms that actually do the lifting on the 3 pt hitch are located just under the seat. They connect to the lower arms by a rod on one are and and threaded rod on the other. The threaded one adjusts so implements can be leveled or tilted.

If any of the backets are broken you should get them fixed before trying to use the 3 pt hitch.

Re: 3 pt. won\'t hold arms down

Okay, now I see what you are talking about. There's two nuts, one on each site the bracket.
