This is a partial schematic of the hitch portion of my flail mower.
What is the purpose of item #10 (circled in red) ?

On my Maschio Girafetta offset flail, it allows the mower to drop down further on the right side than the left when mowing ditches. It works similar to the tilt function on a T&T kit.

It can be removed on the Maschio if it isn't needed.

The pivoting lower link allows the flail to follow contour changes, resulting in a more even cut.

On some machines it will act as a protection device and moveable link it the end of the mower catches something.

You can definitely not use it, but as already stated, the mower will follow the contour better if you use it.
