Great Job welding. Looks great, There is a pivot arm that rotates by the rotation of rockshaft, as the lift piston operates pushes a rod against the arm, I just wondered if you got some weld/slags that block the rockshaft from turning. can you lift the arm manually without anything on the lift arm?

I can lift manually, but I cannot lower it any less than ~12" off the ground.

Pretty sure the push rod and or piston are not connected properly anymore. I am going to try to pull the top of the case tonight if I get the time. That should tell me for sure what it going on.

I have my fingers crossed!

Take a look at the thread below. I know I newer Kubotas the top case needs to be completely removed to have access below, but how about on the older ones? Look at the link below, it may help you. On my Ford 1700 I can remove the lift piston head. That would make the job a breeze.

Thanks to the knowledge base at TBN I was able to fix the tractor last night.
It took some wrenching, some swearing, and some grinding. Got the top case removed, and the piston had come out of the cylinder. Got it put back together at about 10:30 last night, and hooked up a box blade to see if all was working well. I do need a shorter top link, and to reweld the case from where I ground off the original weld.Other than that, I am back in business.

The new top link attachment is not as square as I would have liked it to be, but I guess the ROPS is torqued a little.
Still have a few bolts to tighten down here and there, but for the most part I am done.
Here are some after pictures.

Glad you got things working again. Nice work and nice welds.

Kenny, regarding the HD kit you said:

It should be available for any of the L tractors. KennyV.

Do you know if they makes these for the L4400? How do you know if you need one? I don't want to see damage like the OPs......I can't weld! I do a lot of boxblade work, disking, plowing, mowing. Also, is it strictly a bolt-on? Any welding or cutting necessary?

N80,

From what I can see the Hg kit looks like it bolts on the top of the case where the seat attaches. and on the rear where the top link attaches. It does not appear to need any welding.

I work all of my equipment HARD trucks, dozers, tractors, etc. I have never had a case bust like this. However, seeing that Kubota makes a HD kit, leads me to believe that I am not the first one to run into this problem.

One more question.
Top link length. The top link I have is ~17" closed. Does anyone know where I can find a cat I top link that is about 12" closed? Or anything shorter than what I already have.

Thanks,
Chris

N80?t bolts on. I would think it is available for yours I believe they were made to prevent this type of damage I wish I could recall the previous thread that went into great depth about this, it was about 2 years ago and I think Kubmech posted about it. In the thread: Re: Top link breakage I did search but didn稚 get anything.
I do have a print out of all the part numbers for the kits for a lot of the L models, if you PM me your email address I will email you what I have. It is too large to post here or I would just do that. KennyV.

CCOUGHRAN1 Very nice work, your welding shows you have done some before this job. Glad you got the piston back in. What part of the world are you in? KennyV.

Kenny,

I cannot take credit for the welding. My neighbor did the welding on it. I was just a fitter/helper/engineer. I can think things through, but I cannot get my thoughts through to my hands:D

I am from TEXAS! Live in the Houston area, hence the rust on the tractor. I have another Kubota that lives on the farm in Centerville, Tx and it looks great. 2005 model, and it looks like new. The salt and humidity where I live near Houston play heck on the sheetmetal. Especially on a unit that is 18-20 years old.

Sounds like you live closer to Galveston, I lived in the city for years, now live in spring, no real rust problem there but my parents had a house on Bolivar, stuff wouldn't last long there.

If I need a cast welder...I'm looking you up man!!
