I have tried your idea of having one pin in and the other out, but I still needed another inch. But with a little welding I should be able to come up with something that will work.

Thanks reb, I did not have a clue that the 1500 had rigid braces. I can understand it not being a popular design, would seem to make a good case for a quick hitch.

I put a HF quick hitch on mine a couple of weeks ago. It still needs some tweaking, but it really simplifies the process of changing implements. I used to take half an hour or so. Now it is a couple of minutes. I don't think it would make it any easier to connect a wider implement, tho, because of the way the hitch is built.
