3 point question

I have a B20 and tried to use the 3 point hitch last night for the first time. It would not stay up in the air unless I held the lever in whatever position I wanted it in. Is it broke?

So you're saying - when you pull the lift lever your 3pt raises and when you set the lever back to the middle (neutral) position, the 3 pt drops immediately?

Sounds like you could have a problem alright. Could be a cracked seal on your 3 pt ram?

Its difficult to understand are you raising the lever and it wont hold that position?Did you mean the lever would move itself to a lower position?
And are you aware of the knob to reduce and adjust the rate of descent?
On the other had maybe what you mean is you raise it and it 'leaks' down?
Hopefully just something simple.

I have a B20 with the same problem. I've concludeed that it's not broken. I can only assume that, when new, there was enough natural friction between the lever and the rail to hold the 3 pt. lever in whatever position it was placed but that over time and use, the friction required to hold it in position has disappeared.

My solution was to go visit my friendly local auto parts store and buy some aftermarket "Door Edge Guard". I cut off a piece that is the length of the rail slot and then simply slipped that piece over the outer rail ---- between the lever and the rail. That provided the friction that I needed to get the lever to stay put wherever I placed it.

I've also added some lever "stops" by placing some screws (2) in the slot with wing nuts facing up. It's easy to loosen the wing nut and then position these mechanical stops wherever you want them to provide repeatable positioning for the TPH -- I use one as a lower stop and another as an upper stop.

I also had this problem with my B20 about a year ago. I tightened the center nut holding the lever about a quarter of a turn and it has worked fine ever since.
