I have a log splitter and I need to rig-up some kind of stand for storing it. I tried using a few pallets so it was high enough to connect the lift arms, but it was too top heavy and rolled over on me. It is 350 lbs.

Before I attempt to put something stable together, I thought I'd tap into the users experience here. I have seen threads on Post Hole Digger storage, but not Log Splitters.

I have a Speeco, and it has legs that it stands on, makes hookup easy.

I just use spare jack stands from a garage sale.

Mine is a little lighter but I think the same concept would work. I just slapped this together with scrap lumber and some cheap casters. If you are storing outside you might like real wheels on it.

I bought mine with legs that bolt on to the 3PT hitch pins and a tripod with a pin on the front. Just two pieces of 2" u Channel with a foot.

I use this on the FEL for splitting as I use the BH for lifting and holding the log lengths.

I store mine on a couple smooth rounds that have it about 8 inches off the floor. I have an inexpensive motorcycle jack I keep in the barn for moving implements around (it has steel wheels). On way or another I am able to use it on most of my lighter implements (chipper, splitter, snow blower, sander, tiller) that weigh less than say 600#. adjustable height and the coaster like wheels make hook up pretty simple. Also let's me tuck implements tightly out of the way in the corner of the barn for storage off season.

I think the bike jack was $100 at sears. Very useful, use it on ATVs, snow machines and of course, motorcycles, too!

I have that same 2-way splitter and like it. Did you see they discontinued that one? On the replacement, they discontinued the bidirectional operation in favor of a vertical tilt. I just drop mine on a large round of firewood, sitting on end. It lives outside.

Do you have enough remotes in order to operate the splitter and the back hoe at the same time?

Achingback,

No, I simply unplug the BH connection and plug in the splitter - takes 2 minutes tops to swap. With the BH I will lift and cut 2-3 log lengths from the pile, which is 30-40 rounds then I disconnect the BH hoses and connect the splitter.

2-3 log lengths is about 1/3 to 1/2 cord depending on the size and this takes me about 2 hours or so - just about enough exercise in one day. Usually I have a cart or a pallet setup where I put the wood during splitting to minimize handling. Sometimes I just get lazy and make a pile..
