On a 1979 B7100, what would be the 3 point lift capacity. I'm thinking of using a dead pallet jack to make a set of 3 point pallet forks for moving pallets around.

Thanks.

Go for it - after you build it you'll get a feel for how much you can load it up and where to put the load. I made a similar setup for my Kubota L345 - it would just lift a 15-bushel bin of apples (750 lbs, centered about 20" back) - sometimes it needed about a 20-40 lb assist to start moving up. No matter how much yours will lift it will be handy.

Can I expect any damage from trying to lift something and simply not being able to do it? That is will the lift cylinder blow apart? or is there a releif valve? How tough are the splines on the lift arms or the arms themselves?

Thanks.

If you try to lift something that's too heavy, it will just not lift it. The relief valve will open - no damage will be done - you'll just hear it whistle a little. The internal cylinder, rockshaft, links, arms and splines are all very strong. Don't worry you won't hurt anything.

Very strange. I have the original, new literature for both the B7100HST and the B7100D tractors as well as a brochure listing the specs for all the tractors that were current then. In none of the literature does it specify the lifting capacity of the 3 point! I have just about all other data, but not that particular spec....in any model. Makes me think that back then it was just "Equivalent to SAE Category 1"

Yeah, I thought it would be listed somewhere too - but didn't find it.

The more likely first problem may not be how much it will lift, but might be how to keep the front end down.

atk,

I think you will FAR exceed the lift capability of the pallet jack used in this fashion before you come close to your 3-pt lift limit. Pallet jacks are capable of transporting up to 5,000 lbs. or so. However, you won't be using them the same way, the little wheels out front will be in the air. I see you putting a few hundred pounds on the forks and having them just fold under. Normal forks are solid steel or heavy gauge box channel. Pallet jacks are not made this way. Unless you have a super mondo dead pallet jack, I don't see this working.

Maybe I am envisioning you using your forks harder than you are. But I don't see the finished product to be heavy duty enough to be useful, without significant reinforcement. With the reinforcement, it could work, but I think it would then be easier to start from scratch. Having said all that, if it works for you, great. I like the idea of taking something destined for scrap metal and turning it into something useful.

I have the owner's manual for my B7100D, and it lists the 3-point lift capacity as 400 kilos. That would be 880 lbs. The dealer said that all the B7100 tractors are rated the same.

BTW, since the tractor weighs 1000 lbs., it's pretty easy to lift the front wheels if you don't have some extra front weight. You should have seen the first time I lifted my 60" Land Pride rear mount mower! (At least it has stearing brakes ;-)

According to the manual it is not 400 kilos, but 400 lbs (180 kg).
