The dealer came and picked it up. Apparently I could not have gotten out of limp mode with out removing the code. He mentioned I might not be able to keep the motor at 1500rpm because it was trying to protect itself from damage. There is a way I could have cleared the code and gone on with the burn. But both of us wanted to make sure that is why it came on in the first place because it should not have happened at all.

I can understand that urea systems may be part of the explanation for why some Tier 4 diesels do fine at less than "full PTO" rpm. However, aren't new VW diesels Tier 4? They are pretty good size and put out more than CUT diesel engine HP but they don't use urea as I recall.

The newer 2015 VW 2.0 TDI uses urea. This new engine is all of the diesel models. Before the passat tdi was the only one that used it.

When can you not keep the motor at 1500 rpm ?

Turns out the code had nothing to do with plugged exhaust!! But to answer your question I thought that the code was related to a plugged exhaust which apparently has a sort of safety built in that limits RPMs. Van Paemel Equipment/Kioti technician think it was related to an exhaust clamp that was not torqued enough. Outside air was setting off the check engine code. Van Paemel went through the systems related to the check engine light, replaced sensors checking wires etc. Van Paemel figured out the code would shut off at certain RPMs and it makes sense because the code was also linked to an internal air leak. Tightened it down, fired back up no code. So Van Paemel is letting it cool down all night retesting everything in the morning to make sure its gone.

I will have a detailed version of the burn cycle when I get the tractor back. I guess if you do a manual burn you do not rev the RPMs up at least for a HST. You follow the guide leave the tractor at idle and it will take care of the rest. It has two stages it brings the RPMs up to around 1600 and then 2600 if I remember correctly without us doing anything.

O and I forgot to add they said if I had ran the tractor for 3hrs at idle it would not have plugged the exhaust.

I think I might have to wait a few weeks to go back into the fields everything is thawing out. But I have some other projects to work on.

ToSoon, sounds like you've sorted your issues out. Heckuva way to start your relationship with your new tractor, though! :shocked:

I've had my NX4510HST Cab for a year now. Final Tier IV, and couldn't be happier with it. Eighty hours on it, and it's regenerated only once! Don't know for sure why, but I'm thinking it must be because of the way I've been using it so far. Most of the hours have been at high rpm, either grading with a Woods 7' box blade (BSM84) with a full load using Linked Pedal, or doing FEL work with the hand throttle manually turned up. Only about 12 of the 80 hrs have been plowing snow, which is not much of a load on that tractor.

I think you'll love the tractor. Keep us posted on how you're doing with it. Welcome to TBN, BTW!

Regens at idle with an HST? I question that. When my tractor has started regenerating at idle, the engine ran messed up and the ECU did not advance the throttle on its own. So I did and the regeneration process completed in five or ten minutes ( a guess as I've never timed a regen).

Incidentally, my use is linked throttle always on and piles of stop and starts.
