Newbie with simple question hope for a simple solution. I am buying a grapple to use on my compact (3/8" ag couplers) and utility tractor (1/2" ag couplers). Grapple can come with either 3/8" or 1/2" couplers but is there an adapter that can go from 3/8" to 1/2" (or vice versa)? Or do I need a separate set of hoses (a set for 3/8" couplers, another set for 1/2" couplers)?

Another newbie question. Is there an adapter that converts 1/2" female coupler to 1/2" male coupler? without just taking the female fitting off and replace with a male fitting?

Thanks in advance.

You can buy the parts to make all of the things you are asking about. I've never seen a gender bender for hydraulic fittings but I'm sure someone makes it.

Thanks for replying yeah I was hoping to skip the hose building or fitting replacing process with a simple adapter/reducer but not sure if there is one.

Maybe I need to build a pigtail hose 1-2 ft long but with right couplers at the end; which begs the question, can a short hose handle 1/2" coupler flow on one end, and 3/8" coupler flow on other end?

I think you can do it by keeping the 3/8" male couplers on the grapple. Then get a 3/8 female coupler and attach it straight to a 1/2" male coupler, you may need an adapter fitting in between. This will allow you to use it on both tractors. You can even leave the 3/8" to 1/2 couplers on the big tractor.

I say convert everything to one or the other and be done, otherwise you will have short jumper hoses or connectors connected together with short nipples to make up the adapters. More chance for leaks, more weight, more bulk, and probably more money.

The grapple connectors have to be in just the right spot so the hoses are not kinked when the grapple is curled back and have a good angle when its curled down. Adaptors may interfere with either of those. I'd switch everything to one size, preferably 1/2" as its most common.

I plumbed mine with one male and one female on the tractor and on the grapple. That way there's never a question of getting them backwards and reversing the controls, and I can connect the grapple's hoses together when it is off the tractor. While that will not prevent pressure build up due to increased ambient temperature it does keep the connectors cleaner than the usual dust caps do.

Go with the "kennyd" concept, change out odd size couplers to match all couplers to same size.... Its will take less parts and cost less and will simplify everything (no funky adapter or hoses to deal with)

Thanks for all the inputs definitely a lot of food for thoughts. And I am going with Ericm979's suggestion and converting everything to 1/2" couplers.
