That sounds like about what my Swischer? (spell) is and its rated at 22 tons. Plenty of power for the tough elm here in western Ks.:)

im repowering my old splitter but it has a single stage pump and its slower than molasses on a cold day,so i got a 11hp engine and 16gpm 2 stage pump but wasnt sure bout the cylinder,i live in wv where all the oak and hickory and locust is at and thats primarily what i burn,do you see me having any problems with spliiting power with this cylinder?ive had this splitter for so long and use it so much i just realy dont wanna do this a second time.i think it will be ok if i dont try to split down the middle of a 24inch piece f hickory or locust...what will the cycle time be?should it be pretty fast as well as fairly powerful?

You only have about 12 tons of force with a 2 stage pump..

Your cycle time will vary . At 16 GPM,

6.4 ips

8.5 ips

at the lower 4 GPM, it will be slower.

1.6 ips

2.1 ips

Here is the specs on my splitter. Never had any power problems.
7 HP Briggs & Stratton 875 Series engine
22 tons of splitting force
4" x 24" cylinder
11 gallon-per-minute pump for minimum cycle time and faster splitting
Heavy-duty 2-stage pump provides maximum splitting performance

3550, I,m using a HF 6.5 horse motor with a 11 gpm 2 stage pump and cycle time is about 13 seconds out and just a tad slower back but very useable. It,s never failed to split red oak and I even put a twist in my wedge so no complaints power wise:DDave

ok everyone thanks for the input,i think im gonna try the cylinder i have first and if thats not good enough i'll just switch to a 4 in cylinder.hpefully it will satisfy me,cause i hate to do things twice lol.but i use it enough that i gotta be able to split what i need to,so i'll get it the way i want it eventually.once again thanks for the info everyone

The manufactures are fudging the figures on your system. They do it all the time. The are assuming that the 2 stage pump is pumping at 3000 psi, and even at that, they add a couple tons.

Log splitters are always faster in the retract mode.
