Kubota L4400
I recently purchased a 2011 Kubota L4400 equipped with front end loader and AG tires. This model has 45.3 engine HP and 37.5 PTO HP. I am looking to buy a Bush Hog brand rotary mower. The mower is a 286 model with a six foot cut. My tractor has a lift capacity at lift point of 2870 pounds and a lift capacity at 24 inches of 2310 pounds. The 286 weighs approximately 980 pounds if memory serves me. My wife and I have 30 acres of mostly pasture land. Parts of the land is hilly with moderate sloping at times- not mountain land. My tractor is 4WD. Anyone out there that is willing to assist me in deciding on a choice. Perhaps somene with experience in this setup. Thanks from the very bottom of my heart and soul.

Give us a little more information. What tractor will be pulling it, how much land, what kind of stuff are you mowing, what's your budget, etc...

Oh yeah... Welcome aboard!

I initially erased part of my inquiry and just posted a new thread. Please check. Thanks.

A 286 is about a wide and heavy a rotary cutter that you would want behind a tractor of that size and power. I would call it a good match.

The 286 is a great mower and your tractor will handle it just fine. My only question is if you need that heavy duty of mower if you are only mowing established pastures.

Thanks to everyone. The main reasn for the decision to purchase a 286 is strength of deck and matters of longevity. I would like to perhaps one day to past my equipment on to my grandchildren. I also might help my neighbors with mowing at times, and might encounter some rough stuff.

you'll have no problems with the weight of the cutter. and I assume 6 ft is wider than your rear tires so that's good. no problem with getting a heavy duty cutter, but I think you'd be fine with a lighter model and save some $. even the lighter BHs are tough. I think either would be around to pass to the kids, and the kubota for that matter.

Well it is a great mower with a history of lasting for decades without issue so I am sure your grand kids will see it. A good number of commercial mowers use it for 40+ hours of mowing a week and many swear by them. Most of us smaller property users only use one for far less hours a year and find a lighter duty model will last for decades also.
