Mahindra 2816 HST, Super M farmall, J5 bombardier, 230 timber jack skidder
Thinking of buying the mahindra 2816 hst. Was wondering what peoples thoughts on. The mahindra looks like a simplier, more durable machine. The price was the best around this area. The physical size of this model in comparison to a kubota b 26 is no comparison. I was wondering what peoples thoughts and experiences were. Wonder how people like the hydrostatic, if there is anything while operating the hydrostatic we should watch out for. Should the engine be ramped up more so then a slower idle during certain functions. We have super farmall M IH tractor. Just getting an addistion with a backhoe and fel. Thanks.

I have a 2615 very similar tractor a little less HP and some different features I think. I have about 40 hours on it mostly moving snow and mowing. For mowing I set it at the recommended rpm and go, for snow plowing I run it at about 2000 rpm's. The HST transmission does take a little time to get used to but I really like it especially for loader work and mowing.
Qaulity seems real high I had a slight leak in the front axle that was cured with a socket wrench and the only other problem is a slight leak from the oil pan that will need to be taken care of under warrenty, just need to get it to the dealer who I have complete confidence in.

and the only other problem is a slight leak from the oil pan that will need to be taken care of --- Awhile back I discovered all my pan bolts were loose, 3215

I've got the 2815 HST and the only major issue that I've had has been with the bolts not being torqued down on the right front axle. Other than that it's been a great tractor with a few modifications and I've got 200 hours on my 2006 and personally I think the HST is great to use.

I like to get as much done in as little time as possible. I'd hate to count the number of times I would have had to stop to shift gears over the last 402 hours. Nothing but hydro for me will satisfy my needs for loader, and landscape work with my 3 PT implements.

My buddy just traded his 2816 in on a 4035. That little 2816 was a beast, I don't know why he traded up so much. But the new one is a monster. His 2816 was geat though, but it seems like all the mahindra's are good machines.

I think you will like the 2816. I have it's baby brother the 2516 and it does all I want. My diff lock still refuses to work even though the local dealer "fixed it". I give up as I will NEVER deal with them again. I don't need the diff lock anyway. The local dealer also was told about the oil leak under the tractor but I had to go under and fix it myself since they couldn't.

Make sure you have a great dealer. I bought mine from a GREAT dealer in Penn to save some money and I'd do it again if given the chance. It would help to have a local dealer that I trusted though.

I have a 2615 which I think has the same motor and fel. I have been very pleased with the tractor.

I will give you my .02 worth. My 2615 was a great machine, I put 335 hrs on it but I found that I needed a bigger machine. I love the new Bobcat I bought, however I miss some of the features of my 2615. For example, I like to have levers to engage pto's, 4 wheel drive etc... The Cat has bling...push button 4wd, hydraulic pto, tilt wheel, it almost feels like my Chevy. I'm not complaining by any means....I'm a simple person and like simple things, but the Bobcats are a pretty impressive piece.
My suggestion is this, buy the machine that has the best dealer/service support, period! It makes no sense paying a little less for a machine if you have to go out of your way because the dealer or service department is crappy. It will cost you more in the long run, and cost you sleepless nights.
I did have some issues with my Mahindra, never had the oil leaks like some others have posted, but I had my share of small problems also. I think every machine has some type of issues though.
