I went ahead and ordered a new one from the local dealer. They're good people, just new to mahindra. The picked Mahindra up after my dealer lost/gave it up.
I was seriously thinking of ordering from one of the great dealers on TBN but, thought it would be in my best interest to start a relationship with the local guys. I'm going to install the old one for the weekend, so I can use my tractor. When the replacement comes in, I'll pursue getting a second opinion on the bad one.

Did you install your new alternator yet, and did it correct the tach problem? I certainly hope so!

I noticed on mine this weekend that the tach did work all weekend, correctly it appeared. I also noted that the hour meter did not advance at all!!

Maybe one of our knowledgable dealer personnel or a Mahindra Rep could shed some light on both of these issues.....

I haven't got the new alternator yet. I'll post the results when I do. I was using the tractor this weekend and noticed around pto speed the tach read erratically. I would hazard a guess that the regulator is bad.

The new alternator came in monday. I installed it tonight and everything is working. Thanks to everyone for their input.

Just kidding you, of course. Now that all is well, take your time and find a place that will fix the old one. It really shouldn't cost very much if you can find the right rebuilder. Wish my old marine guy down in RI was still in the business... He'd fix you up good for laughably cheap money.
