2544 GT Brakes Question

OK so what's the secret to get the brakes working on my tractor?

Even on flat ground the brakes wont stop the tractor unless you quickly take your foot off the gas pedal and let the tractor "compression" brake itself first (which about jerks you off the seat).

I've checked all the pedal linkages and nothing is binding and appears to be working properly. Anyone else seen this?

Try adjusting them according to the manual and see if you can get them to work. I had to do that when I got to about 10 hours, but haven't had to touch them again in the 45 hours since then.

I'm not sure I follow... So when coasting, on a hill, or trying to park, you hit the brake pedal and nothing happens (it doesn't hold)? The brake shouldn't hold against force from the hydro. You need to be completely off of the forward/reverse pedal before you hit the brake pedal. Honestly I don't think I've ever used the brake on my 2544 other than mashing it for engine starting. The way the pedal is placed, I think it was only intended as a parking brake.

I'm with you JT. I have a 2542 and my tractor stops before I can even think about using the brake once I get off the go pedaL

Mine doesn't stop immediately, sometimes I have to tap the opposite direction to get it to quit moving quickly. I guess I need to adjust the hydro controls huh?
