2520 tiller size

We were going to do a separate pumpkin patch this year and I was going to put black plastic around the plants and then space the rows to still get the tractor and tiller between. We'll see, I sure have enough room so overall garden size is no problem. If I go with the offset tiller, I guess one side of the row will still always have a tire track in it, but then again, we're just talking dirt here! I just think the 4 footer would be better, not quite as cumbersome? as a 5 footer. We also have a small cultivator and a 5hp rear tine walk behind tiller to get into the tight spots.

My simplicity diesel 27hp is about the same as your JD model, i was recommended a land pride 50" they said the hp would handle it fine, so id say anything 48-55" you should be good to go.

Given several of you have experience with tillers and gardening, I'd appreciate any thoughts and advice on this question.

I acquired a JD 2305 with a 647 tiller and picked up a Brinly 12" plow. I am new to gardening (and newly retirely with some time now) and want to start some serious gardening. Hope to lay out a 50' by 75' garden so enough space to move around. Will the 647 tiller take care of all my needs to work up the soil, etc? Will it go deep enough? Should I sell the plow or consider using it at some point during the season? I hear some discussion that tillers churnup the soil too much.

Thanks for some help.

I have a 52" Frontier tiller for my 2210 and it is handled easily by the tractor and covers my tracks. As i understand the 2520 has a few more ponies so you should go with as wide as you want.

JDTRAC,
You should be fine with the 647 on the back of your 2305. Like I said above, our friends tilled our garden this year. It was a new garden, never turned over before(boy did I pull weeds this summer!). They used their 21hp. Kubota with a 50" BushHog tiller. My garden was about 60'x100'. They had no trouble tilling whatsoever. The soil was awesome. So based on that, however, I am no expert, your equip. should do fine for you. Have fun!

JDTRAC If its a new garden, meaning tilling up sod it will pull hard and maybe have to till twice to get it to garden form. I would till wait a day or two and till again. Your tractor and tiller will be fine. Also you might have to use 4wd the first time to hold tractor from skidding because tiller might push tractor. If any more questions ask away, someone will have a answer. Good luck!!

I have a Sitrex RH 4125 for my JD2305, it's a 50" tiller, my tractor handles it just fine, but it will push me along if I don't stay on top of things. I think the 2520 should handle a 4 ft tiller with no problem

Thanks to all who responded concerning use of 647 tiller with 2305 tractor....

Some followup questions..

What about use of the 12" Brinly plow with my 2305. Anyone use it? Does the 2305 pull fine and not break down furrow wall due to larger width of the rear right wheel?

Would the plow be a implement I should consider keeping for working up my garden in the fall or will the tiller be enough?

Thanks again

The tiller would be just fine for fall work but if you have a chance to buy a 12" plow then do it. The farmers around here would rather have there gardens fall plowed and spring tilled. Becides, plowing is just a lot of fun!

bigtiller ---- Thanks very much for the feedback and the pics. What a great job and appears you are using a 2305 with 12" plow as well.

I do have one other problem... The Brinly I purchased has a "sleeve hitch" and need someway to connect to either my JD imatch or the 3ph. Any suggestions? Appears in your pic that maybe you had to make a hitch? How did you make it and out of what? Maybe I could get someone to make an A-frame to fit. I checked with Brinly and they no longer make a sleeve hitch to 3ph conversion unit. thanks again.
