2520 Lifting a JetSki?

I agree Chris. I suppose my biggest point to be made was that I think you are right and have given the poster good advice. I hope that you did not feel the response to be a comparision of the lifting capacities of the 200cx v. 300cx loader, as I mainly lift only mulch with mine (a Joke attempt). The original poster could lift what he wanted to a height of less than full height (but still plenty high) with a 2520/200cx combination. I do not though think the Deere specs are "crap" though. As we both know well, Deere has the fudge-factor they HAVE to figure in to account for things you or I would not consider. We both know your 2520 and my 3720 will lift with their respective loaders much beyond their listed capabilities. JD wants to advertise what their loader will lift on a given machine to a certain height one time, ten times, a thousand times, taking into account variations in hydraulic flow, seals, metal and component fatigue, etc. They also fudge a little for the less learned among us who will try things that are totally unreasonable with their machines. They really do not care much about a high number to post in the literature, they care about the maximum repeatable number they can guarantee to their customer who buys such a loader with such a machine and keep competitive with the field. You and I both know, and have respectively proven, that these machines will do far more than advertised, in reasonable use. Neither of us, nor probably any other poster in the forum, could duplicate the type and frequency of testing the engineers at JD do, nor can we accurately account for the variances that they must consider before publishing their specs.

Amen, smartest post I have heard here in awhile. John M even with everything you said some people in here will still pretend the baby 2520 are bigger and badder than advertisted.

Regardless what some people want to think John Deere is posting spec's that keep the tractor operating safely. Once again if lifting is the major part of a tractor purchase look at buying a bigger MORE powerful tractor. The baby line of mini tractors are for lighter duty things around the house, I would suggest not trying to get them to lift like a bigger tractor would.

Keep the rubber side down :D

Chris2520 please post a picture of you lifting 1300 lbs at max lift height. I lifted around 1000 lbs and it really seemed to be at the limits. Once again not saying it can't lift that but I find 1300 lbs at max lift height hard to believe.

Remember the 798 lb is at the pivot point at max height. You've got to subtract the weight of the bucket or other attachment for your net capacity.

I'd reckon rigging up forks of some sort...or a cradle would work. I'd be concerned about the Jetski hitting the grill guard so you'll want to cushion it in some way (I've used an old tire). I don't think you'd damage the tractor but you might damage the Jetski.

I'm sure Chris meant he lifted that weight pretty low (since the capacity is higher the lower the FEL is). After all, 1400 lbs is almost the weight of the tractor and would be extremely unsafe. Chris wouldn't purposely recommend such an unsafe practice.

I think its your turn to post a picture -
Why would you aks him to post pictures when you are the first to be critical or offer some other sarcastic comment ? Nobody here is blowing smoke up anybodys behind. I use the machine in a commerical environment where larger machines get to be an obstacle. As a matter of fact, I'm in process of either adding a skid steer or a 4120 to the mix, but the 2520 still has a niche. What I will tell you by me using a 61" bucket all material that goes into it is lifted to max height everytime. This includes 1-1/4 crushed concrete, screened fill, 1/4 blend, and any other heavy heaped material (besides lead- LOL). It does it without complaint and the ballast is the backhoe and loaded tires. So far I have been using this similar type of setup for about 7 years with no safety or mechanical issues.

I wouldnt say its B.S but its the competition being skeptical - in summary I think the 2520 will do the same posted spec benchmarks as the B2630/B3030 in the hydrolic arena (PTO is in the 3030 favor), and the BH75 is a better hoe than the 46BH. I think the 200cx is the better loader, with more standard features. Thats been my personal position since the begining, and I feel its a very realistic claim or observation. Nothing more

The key is using the correct amount of ballast - using a BH and loaded tires resolves the ballast question for most. However taking a page out of Chris2520's book, I threw on my ballast box loaded with portland cement (best guess 800 lbs -900 lbs conservative) and added on another 540 lbs. Total around 1340-1440 lbs, and I ran out of weight before I did with hydrolics. This surpasses the spec of 1,150 lbs by a signifcant margin.
As for the 200cx and whats the weight of a filled heaped bucket, my guess is about 1,100 lbs. I have to get that into my F550 dump bed, so max height is critical. My 4100 had to do the same

"I took a gander over at the John Deere forums and all the do is argue. I don't see any of that over here."

Any guesses as to how long it will be until we see a thread like that over in one of the other forums?
