2520 Front axle oil

I have checked the level in my front axle a couple of times. I notice when using 4wd for loader work, I hear hear a noise coming from the front axle. Nothing bad, but I can hear it when I engage the front axle. Oil level is fine, but I was reading the manual this morning preparing to change the tranny fluid. I noticed it said to use gl-5 80-90w oil in the front. I remember checking the level yesterday and the oil was almost clear like hydraulic fluid. Isn't 80-90w gear oil dark colored? JC

All of the 80w90 I have used has looked like normal enigne/hydraulic oil, only thicker and has a stronger odor.

Now that you mention it, I remember that strong smell. Guess I need to go check it again and make sure of whats in my front axle. JC
