2500 series mulch plug without chute?

Just got my gt2544... very nice! However, I wanted mulch all the time and the mulch plate which comes with it is installed under the chute. The question I have is, if there is a way to keep the mulch plate in place and remove the chute so I don't have the extra clearence required (10 inches or so)? It seems as the though the chute actually holds the mulch plate in place!?!

Any ideas?

Seeing as there have been no responses... I'll try to ask a related question....

Anyone know if a mulch plate (from another year or model) can be bolted on my 44 inch deck after the existing chute has been unbolted and removed?

I would really like to be able to mow close to objects on both the left and right side of the deck. As it is, there is no way to do this with that huge chute hanging off the side?!?

Ok I will try to help you somewhat....On my 3204 series the 44" deck has the discharge shoot with a pin to hold the plastic, and the mulch plug snaps on the same bar that holds the discharge shute. You could probably slide the bar out (removing pins first) and remove the discharge chute.
The mulch plug can then snap on the bar by itself.
