Hi all,
Its been a while since I posted here. My 2415 is now 8 years old and has been pretty trouble free. Just recently it has developed a cold start issue. We had some very cold weather (0 degrees) a few weeks ago when I first noticed it. It has always started no matter what the temp before then. I checked the fuel filter at that time and it was very dirty and surprised it started at all before that. I had an extra and put a new one in. It still would not start after filter change. I gave it a small whiff of starting fluid and it fired right up. Once even a little warm, it would fire up no problem. The glowplug light lights up when the key is turned on. It illuminates and goes off after a normal amount of time, but doesn't seem like they are working. Given the suddenness of the problem, I have a hard time thinking they all went dead at once. Isnt there a relay in between the timer and the glow plugs? Is this a common problem or even a possibility. If anyone has any thoughts or diagnostic thoughts, please let me know. I just remembered that I have a shop manual I bought some time ago somewhere. I will see if I can find that.

put 12vs to the glow plug rail manually/carefully and see if it fires like normal... there is also a fuse and a relay. before you change the relay pull the ground cable off the battery and the frame and clean it well. even clean the frame up also... if it fires with the 12v jump and a clean ground but still not without the jump you need a new relay

It sounds like you may have a bad glow plug, you can disconnect the wire and the strap that connect the glow plugs together and check the resistance of each with an ohm meter to see if one or more are burned out. Don't know the exact spec. but would guess around 1.5 ohms for a good one.
