Sorry your not feeling good, but sounds like it could be good news with the tractor.
Keep a good eye on your water, watch for bubbles in the radiator.
You can do the chemical test for combustion gases in the radiator and also do a pressure test of the radiator.
If both of those pan out good, run her keeping a good eye on the oil and coolant level.
Do you have any idea what happened to your coolant?
It sounds like you are running straight water, you are aware that water will boilover and overheat sooner then 50/50 antifreeze.

I would rent or borrow a pressure testing kit. Then I would pressure test the cooling system up to the rated cooling system pressure and see how long (or if) it holds, as well as pressure test your radiator cap. Do you still have an overflow tank set up for your radiator to vent into? Check to see if the overflow tank is damaged or cracked and allowed the vented water to just run out. Maybe it all just vented out the cap when you ran it hot?

With cast iron block, cylinder head, manifolds and rotating bottom end, it's really difficult to over heat one of these so bad that it's junk.

It's not impossible to do, but you *really* have to work at it pretty hard.

If it ran good back to the barn, not missing on any cylinders or lugging, you may be alright after all.

Once you get it sorted out, put a fresh mix of antifreeze and distilled water in that thing. I wouldn't even run straight water in a southern state (I never used to run straight water in AZ).

Absolutely, I never run straight water. I just used it until I figure out what’s going on, antifreeze has gotten too expensive to waste on a leak lol. I’m going to run a pressure test and see if I can find a tester to check for exhaust gasses. Hope to get this behind me soon.
