2320 Hydraulic pumps

Has anyone considered adding a second pump on a 2320 and splitting the ccts they way they are on a 2520/2720. On the surface dosen't seem like such a large task but there must be something I am missing. It would seem adding a seperate pump with abt 3gpm to run the steering would not be that hard and then you would have the 5.6 gpm from the main pump just for implements which is a bit higher than the 5gpm the 2520 has.

So what am I missing here.

Have you seen where the pump is located? I think it would be a MUCH bigger job that you think...You would also have to find the priority valve and eliminate it.

I know where the existing pump is and was thinking of putting an secondary pump on the engine to drive the steering cct.

In the end, I'm sure it would be cheaper to just sell the 2320 and buy a 2520...

And you wouldn't have a franken-machine that would be hard to sell or trade...

I find it quite interesting when a question is asked abt doing things like this.. The favourite response is usually some take on you should upgrade or trade. Guess people don't stop to consider there are probably reasons that someone owns the tractor they do. My wife is the main user of this machine and didn't like the 2520, I work 12 hrs days and having a machine she likes to do as much of the yard work as possible was a very important consideration. We got this unit when the cnd dollar was high a year ago and got a smoking deal on it. I love this tractor the way it is. The question was just that a question and wondering if any gearheads had looked at or done this. To me it dosen't seem overly complicated if one were to take their time and do it right. Yes hyd are expensive I know that for the electric diverter I installed to run a tilt cylinder and my blower chute hyd, but it is more the I did it than really needing the speed in the hyd. Geeze whatever happened to good old inginuity and back yard mechanics. When I did my diverter setup, it was installed that I could totally remove it in under an hour and you would not be able to tell anything was ever installed and that is they way I would do this if and when I ever decided to.

I would think it would be far easier to change to the 2520 pump and intake manifold and add/buy the necessary parts needed to make the swap. If you are really interested in this it would be a good idea to spend some time looking at the differences between the models in this series first. Make sure it will work on paper within your budget for time as well as money.

Something to consider is that when you increase the volume of the pump from 5 gpm to 10 gpm that this is a substancial load for the lower powered engine, so if it drops rpm then the pump slows and this turns into a catch 22.

That was one of my concerns as hyd seems to suck power. When I was checking into hyd steering it is amazing just how much hp is required to run the steering when turning although it is short term but still a peak demand. Like I said earlier this is kinda just throwing an idea around looking at ways to improve the 2320. I love the machine the way it is and would probably never trade it but add a 2520 or 2720 if the day ever came that one was required. We have 16.5 acres of land I use this machine on and have a Landpride RB1572 72" rear blade, Frontier BB2060 box blade, FEL with 53" bucket, Frontier SP1060 pulverizer, 647 Tiller, 62 Gallon 3pt PTO sprayer, 62D MMM, 50" Allied 2 stage 3pt blower and my neighbor has a set of 5 1/2' KingKutter disks and 6 ft cultivator I use and he uses my 3pt stuff. Also have a PTO manure spreader and 7ft sickle bar mower on the way. This machine will drag that 60" box blade into the ground, fill it and keep pulling no problem and pull those double disks with the disks in up to the axles. So I am not in the market to replace this unit any time soon, the only thing would be a bit faster hyd but I can live with it the way it is NP.
