2305 stops running

I have a 2006 2305 w/160hrs on it. Twice I have been running the machine and it will abruptly quit. The first time It stared after cranking 2-3 times. Yesterday I had to let it sit for 2-hours and it started right away. When it happened the other day, I would crank the starter and the machine would fire (ie tailpipe smoke), but would die after 2-3 seconds. If I kept the starter engaged, again, it would run 2-3 seconds and die while the starter was still spinning.

When I was running the tractor, both times, it quit abruptly, (ie no sputtering or hesitation.) I had the dealer on the phone and he had me check the fuel solenoid by putting the key in the "on" position. It did click in, so thats not the problem.

Due to the abruptness of the failure, I would suspect something electrical? I would hate to bring it in for service since its an intermittent problem and would like to see if anyone else had the same experience and what the resolution was.

Don't rule out debris in the fuel tank.

might want to try to pull a fuel line off,
and see how it runs out over time,
and if it stops look
into the idea of something in the tank.

Wouldn't the fuel filter stop the debris before it entered the system?

Yes fuel filter will stop debris from getting to the injectors BUT if the line from the tank to the fuel filter is clogged, the engine will starve for fuel and die. Check the fuel level in the filter as soon as it dies. If you see a fuel level line, you will know you have too little fuel coming into the filter from the tank. Drain and blow out the line and flush the tank.

First I'd check:
Make sure the breather hole in the middle of the fuel cap is clear on top and the white check valve ball on bottom of the cap moves up and down freely.

Check that the fuel shutoff lever on top of the filter is fully opened. Picture is on page 20 of the manual.

Change the fuel filter. :thumbsup:

Like already said, but then I assume the fuel filter was already changed. Then check that fuel flows good from the tank to the filter.

Make sure the solenoid actually stays engaged beyond that first key-on click. Keeping it on is a separate coil that with just a momentary loss of power will drop off and abruptly down off the engine.

Has the fuel filter been changed? or cleaned recently?

Make sure the solenoid actually stays engaged beyond that first key-on click. Keeping it on is a separate coil that with just a momentary loss of power will drop off and abruptly down off the engine.

Is the second coil part of the solenoid assy? In other words, are there two separate coils with two separate P/N's or is it one complete module? How hard is it to replace?
